Can someone please tell me who we're listening to?

These sounds have been heard for a few days. Which bird does this voice belong to? :help:

The Jay in the morning. Visibly irritated.
He jumped from initial chants/imitations (also Goshawk) to these calls.

10:39 A great tit 'shabby chic'. She looks really battered.

No sign today either.

I already updated page 1 yesterday.
Yes, of course I will continue to spend all available time here and report if necessary.

Please keep your eyes on the nest!
Should our lovely H's actually be breeding elsewhere in the territory, we will notice their juveniles.

I miss Team H. :/

Hello Polly and everyone.

They are absent, if they are in another nest, the more time passes, the less they will move H21 and H44 is not so noisy. In any relay they can get close to something like they almost certainly did the other day H21.
We will have to wait a long time until the chickens show up here. Yesterday I was from 16:30 to night and today from dawn to 12:35 and I haven't heard anything from the H's.

It seems strange to me that nothing has been said yet by the Dabas and it has only appeared very quickly in the chat unless they are preparing to move the camera.

Here we continue.

Hello Polly and everyone. :hi:

After several days without sounds, today it was felt at 10:55:14-17, 10:55:43-47 and 10:57:20-23.

They are not far and from time to time they come a little closer.

Greetings

Hello Emiliano, thanks for your attention here even if the nest has no activity to offer. :2thumbsup:
I've been quiet here for the last few days but at least I was able to see something late. I was allowed to pick up my husband from the hospital yesterday. Seems everything is going back to being messy as usual.
10:55:14-17, 10:55:43-47 and 10:57:20-23.
I still listened to these calls, all of them.
The last one sounded like a battle.

Today at 09:09 we saw H44. He carried a twig into the nest.

It was so comforting to see him! :2thumbsup:

Whose voice didn't sound like an H. Or?

Hello Polly - family. :hi:

Yes it is comforting to see it again carrying a twig, the nests always offer special attention, even without breeding and out of season.
Still fit and looking very good, he jumped onto the branch and left shortly after at 9:09:37 (shadow was visible on small branch).

Today he could also be heard between 8:26 and 8:27.

Greetings

I hope that soon you will recover normality and your husband will get better.

Hello Polly and everyone.

After six hours of listening since 11:10, nothing has been heard. If they are breeding elsewhere, the appearances will be very sporadic like a few days ago.

Meanwhile in the Netherlands the first chicken has already been born.
Laying 1st egg ( 22-3-2023 )
Birth of the 1st chick ( 2-5-2023 )
Approximate time elapsed about 41 days, which corresponds to the normal laying of 4 eggs.

I wonder, will they keep us informed of the situation of the H's in Riga? I think that after so much information that we have provided about them, it would not hurt to know something about them.

Greetings to all. :offtobed:

Hi Polly , vaninamoinen and all. :hi:

Today in the morning the Goshawk has been heard at 5:07 and 5:30, on this last time he must be looked with the crows.
9:27 Brief sound and then some noise in the branches.

6:31 In the tree appears a picid, probably the one that has sounded these days.

Maybe they know, maybe not.
Some time ago someone was on the phone under the nest. I think they are trying to find out if there is another nest.
Well, I would like to know.

We can be glad that the camera is still rolling. despite the meanwhile confirmed negative breeding course in this nest.

It still allows us some sympathy here.

Yesterday:
Late in the evening everyone had their performance - crows and Team H.
Both, first H44 I think and also H21 could be heard.

The activities may be closer than the voices suggest. At least the crows can be seen. And the H's are not amused. 8-)

However, I think the excitement at the moment of recording is human-induced.
It sounds like ringing hawklets.

It has become quiet in the area. Anyway calmer. Seems everyone is sitting on the eggs together.

Well, H21 has never really strayed far. She was always present to be seen near the nest, to be heard... fluttering and calling in the tree.
I have a hard time believing they breed further away. If so, I suspect the second nest is pretty close. On the other hand, we do not hear any calls when leaving and entering the nest.

Be it - they are fine!!! That's the main thing. :innocent:
It's okay if we don't know everything now. It is important that H21 & H44 are not disturbed again. The couple has had enough and too many weeks of stress from the youth group with their party and riots. It's good if you trust in the area gets another chance.
With luck, if LDF has the stamina and resources, they'll grow back in the fall.

Have a nice evening and I'll stay tuned here.

Hello Polly and everyone.

Nothing is clear, they are heard (they are not far away) but it is not confirmed that they may be breeding elsewhere. Just a small note in the chat that has almost no interventions anymore, people are discouraged from not seeing anything and not receiving information about the situation.

Searching for a Goshawk in a radius of 1 km or a little more around the camera nest should not be so complicated, we know and we are counting because we heard it or they have even looked at the camera that they are still there but maybe they are not so many naturalists available and are in other jobs.

We will continue as before, banding time slots preferably in the morning.

All the best . Polly :2thumbsup:

May 7th

Good evening! :hi:

The last two days:
Yesterday
10:23 a totally relaxed call. Sounded like H44.

Then there were two other situations where I suspect Goshawk.
First a landing sound. Shortly thereafter, a soft, large shadow ... only a crow nagging away.
No crow in the tree...it must have been an H.

Later:
Some crows protested a little later. After some time, everyone rushed towards the industrial area.
In hindsight, I regret not having captured it.

The Goshawk are here. Still.

Today
Nothing, no signs.

Hello Polly and everyone. :hi:

From 11:39 to 20:21 a Goshawk could be heard at 18:55 and 18:56.
It would be farther distances to the nest (supposedly using at this time?) than what we were used to hearing from the previous one). Someday we will know something about what is happening, they will have to put information completing the description started in 2023 on the first page.
One of the cities famous for its goshawks deserves it and that differs from the others because it has been with a camera for about 8 years in one of your couples plus several forums and cam pages with their links.

Greetings to all.

Emiliano! :2thumbsup:

There are portals in which stream operators are actively involved.
In common with the spectators. In chat, via Facebook etc.
There you can feel the interest in what is happening in the nest.
Partly, very delicately, it can also be observed in Latvian and Estonian nests.

Girts Strazdiņš also eagerly and cordially responds to direct inquiries.
But we should probably not expect more.
Goshawk is not an endangered bird. He will hardly get any special attention.

This season is definitely special.

Yesterday, as in the near future, I am preferably on evening duty. So I missed the calls yesterday. Although I've been looking late at night for the night.
A pity.
If it is possible for you, just a short timestamp please...that will suffice. I can see/hear it the same day.

And as I write and with no expectations, H44 appears in the nest.
With booty...food.

Apparently he has just hunted...spread his wings and open his beak.

a rodent.
Image

Image

He starts preparing the food.
Use it to slip onto the side branch.

I hear no shouts - not before, not after. Not even crows.
Does he use this familiar nest to prepare food?

No calls for the partner that food is ready. No calls for prey surrender... meaning there is no nest close by, or one far away - or no brood.
It doesn't look like he's waiting for anyone in the nest. H44 only prepared food.

Ps: This season we are experiencing a long-desired perspective - that of the sideshow.

Under certain circumstances, it can still be very exciting here.

Hello Polly
and everyone. :hi:

When you least expect it, they appear like yesterday H44. He also has to eat and if she hunts her prey is prepared without having to take it to the female if she is cared for and if they were not breeding, H21 would hunt for herself.

For me it is not a question of being a threatened or endangered species, it is that once it starts it should be attended to or report relevant events that are not seen, as is the case in which we do not know much about what is happening, in addition the species is almost emblematic of the city at a naturalistic level.

We are still lucky that the camera is active and we can check some of his adventures.

All the best
