Re: Estonian White-tailed Sea Eagle Nest Camera 2023
12:59: With a few short calls from E 340, our couple arrives on the p-branch. 'Smiley' cleans her beak.
13:01: 'Smiley' lies down in the nest bowl. E 340 still on p-branch, preening.
And changing position:
Rather windy today

14:04: 'Smiley' joins E 340 on the p-branch ->PS, E 340: ->PS, both back into the nest.
Now E 340 wants to work (i.e.: work and snuggle into the nest bowl). Success!

Yeah, it's magic!
As long as this kiddo is not waiting for a companion ... E 340 and 'Smiley' sang, and until now, they are on guard, but refrain from action. Hm ....
14:40:35: 'Smiley' yawns.
14:41: The juvenile sneezes.
14:42: 'Smiley' ->PS over the nest rim.
14:44: Duet. E 340 turns in the nest bowl.
And if singing doesn't help - take this:
14:48: The juvenile finally leaves - this is too much.

15:05: 'Smiley' flies away to the right. E 340 has the nest all to himself.
15:16: E 340 moves to the p-branch, big PS, and then jumps onto a branch at the right.
(Did anyone see him leave? I was away and didn't get it.)

Good morning everybody, good morning eagles!
I'm currently working up the number of events which will take some time, sorry.
06:41: A young strange female WTE arrives on the nest. I have a feeling that this is the one we saw yesterday at 10:04:59.
She is working in the nest
until at
06:49: 'Smiley' arrives on the nest and the juvenile female leaves down to the left.
'Smiley' lies down in the nest bowl, digging and working a little.
07:08: She jumps up to a branch at the left - Black Woodpecker call.
07:29: The young female returns and enters the nest:
She moves along the rim of the nest.
07:32: 'Smiley' begins to call, E 340 appears and both defend vocally their nest:

07:32: 'Smiley' jumps down into the nest and their mighty calling drives the young female over the rim.
07:43 ff: Another duet with a hint of a mating song. No, not now. Postponed and the place is the p-/M-branch at
07:53: Mating.
08:02: E 340 returns with more material.
08:11: E 340 leaves.
08:14: 'Smiley' leaves, too.
09:10 ff.: At 09:10:14 a WTE lands on the p-branch, the juvenile (I didn't see the arrival) leaves from a branch at the right and circles back again onto branch at the right. - Another very young eagle tests the nest, he/she jumps in at 09:10:37. There is another WTE on the p-branch at the same time whom I cannot identify properly, seemed subadult to me.
09:13: The eagle on the p-branch leaves.
09:28: The youngster is perching on the p-branch, when 'Smiley' arrives - the juvenile leaves instantly, and E 340 joins 'Smiley' on the p-branch. Duet!!
'Smiley' lies down in the nest bowl and leaves at 09:57.
<I have to leave now, too. On Monday, public transport will be on strike in Germany and I have to go shopping.>

Pic. 09:13 - WTE on p-branch leaves
We get an idea of the tailmarks.
13:16: Cam drops out at around 13:16. - Mike seems to be on.
13:32 approx.: Cam is back.

13:58 ff.: Voices of a flock of birds, rather hoarse voices (I first thought of crows at the first sound, but there were more and more, so: no crows.)
up to now - 14.45 - this is the time of overall bird song. Since I myself am rather bird-voice-deaf and don't know many (or have to refresh my memory every 14 days or so), please go ahead. I think this is just a perfect early afternoon for bird voice experts. The variety is great!

16:01: E 340 is back on the nest.
16:03/04: Onto the p-branch, preening time.
16:12: E 340 leaves and flies to the right.
16:49:21: Agitated eagle calls, two voices (both male?) - I noted some more 'eagle calls' - but when I heard the Black Woodpecker with his very typical call, I thought: OK: you probably 'tricked' me again.
17:41: Now he's 'trööting', ah well, here's a description of his sounds,
https://www.oiseaux-birds.com/card-blac ... ecker.html
Quote: "The Black Woodpecker’s territorial call is more metallic and higher-pitched than that of Eurasian Green Woodpecker “klee-klee-klee-klee…” or drawn-out “klee-eh” when perched.
The flight call is a series of loud, piercing notes “prree-prree-prree-prree…” but it may also give softer “krük-krük-krük”. The alarm call is “kiyak”.
During the breeding season, we can hear long series of more melodious notes “kweekweekweekwek-wik wik”. Softer sounds can be heard “kyak” or “rirrirrir”. "

18:09: The first Wood Pigeon I hear in the area! :laugh
18:37: 'Smiley' in the nest. There was calling before the arrival. Shortly after, a WTE perches on the p-branch, cleaning his beak. This should be E 340.
18:40:55: E 340 dives down to the right. 'Smiley' lies in the nest bowl.
18:43:30: E 340 is back with more hay. He flies a big circle over the meadow.
Working in the nest:
18:46: She voluntarily makes place for E 340 in the nest bowl.
18:47: 'Smiley' moves to the p-branch, E 340 starts with his mating song -> success!
18:48: 'Smiley' leaves first, E 340 follows.
18:49: Both are calling from further away.
19:05:10: A shot!

Good morning Matsalu! Or should I say "Goodnight"?
The cam said good-bye yesterday at 23:21:04 and is buffering since then.
Since approx.10:55 the cam is back. And this is what it looks like:
12:05 ff.: Black Grouse singing (I think).
12:10: A crane calls. Just one!
12:28 f.: Black grouse. And the single crane.
12:35: European Bullfinch, female.

15:47 sth.: Cam is struggling and the mike is gargling/gurgling,
15:53: Sound back. It has been raining for hours today, our eagles will have adjusted their flight activities accordingly.
15:57 ff: A Wood Pigeon is calling from afar.
Around 16:35 -> cam back. Still raining. Sky seems to have brightened up a little.
16:42: I heard wing flaps, but didn't see it - but now it is revealed: a wood pigeon is/was in the nest tree and sings/sang.

16:45: A WTE perches on the middle branches. And climbs up to top branches -> out of sight. Fleshy ankles, tail white, might have been 'Smiley' - but not 100% -sure.
17:06: just saw a down feather fly away - so the WTE must still be in the tree, busy with preening.
17:13: Cam off.
- Yes, it was 'Smiley':

Around 20:04, the cam comes back. - For how long? We don't know.
The nest looks untouched, if you compare it with the last pic.
20:17 ff.: Cam off-on-off-on. It's getting dark anyway.
Good night!

Tere everybody!
13:58 ff.: Very agitated eagle calls near by.
- Strong wind at the moment. Amazing light show on the meadow. The 'brook alley' area down at the left is wetland.
The only thing missing has two wings, a yellow beak, light eyes, eventually jingle bells on the legs and smiling tailmarks.*sigh*
