Re: Estonian White-tailed Sea Eagle Nest Camera 2023
School of life: Sometimes you get run over, you get slapped (with a fishtail), Mom or Dad step on you ...
... but you don't have a sibling, so: that's OK ...
20:36: Elmar leaves from the p-branch and flies over - to the right, I think, not to the obs.tree. The eaglet has a full crop, Ella has eaten as well and still is panting from all this hard, hard work.

20:18: Ella crashes down on the eaglet with a big fish. (This female with her sometimes hazardous landings, carrying something big, long or heavy, always running the risk to knock one of her loved ones out... aaaah!). But she procures the dinner and makes her eaglet happy.

13:57: Ella leaves and is back at 14:27.
There is still food on/in the nest: she tears out a piece of dry fish. Ella is very busy with nest hygiene - picking here and there, she has an eye for these tiny crawling things.- The dry fish doesn't seem to be very attractive for the eaglet ...
15:41: Ella flies away to the left.
15:52: Elmar returns, calling.
15:57: Eaglet -> small PS.
16:50: Elmar serves some crispy fish.

17:52 ff.: Elmar on the p-branch, the eaglet practices sitting and preening.
On the left: The eaglet on May 18 - on the right: the eaglet today, s.above.
18:22: Elmar flies over to the observation tree, passes it and then flies to the right.
18:30: Ella is back - neither food nor branch.
18:37: Eaglet -> PS.

Sorry if someone has already asked this but I wonder, looking at the names poll & see that "Esta" garnered the most support, why did they settle on "Ella?"

ame's post from Apr 10, quote:
"this morning i got e-mail from the project manager of the Matsalu Facebook Group Nele Sõber who told me that also their group was interested in voting for names of the eagles. i didn't even know that there was such a group (i don't do Facebook). they, on the other hand, didn't know that we had this poll about the male's name. they were only voting for the female's name.
i made a count of their votes for the female's names. Ella got 16 votes, Esta and Ester 3 votes each. besides these three names they mentioned 4 other names which got one vote each. thus Ella got 62 % of their votes. that's a clear majority.
on our side Ella got 10 votes and Esta 11 votes, almost equal numbers. other names got 8 votes.
i think that a fair decision is that Ella becomes the female's name and Elmar the male's. this way the opinions of both the FB group and our members are taken into account in a rather fair way."
19:17: The mike works, the cam doesn't.
19:23: Sounds as if Elmar has come. - Cam is back!
Ella is instantly feeding what Elmar ( ) brought.

The eaglet's crop is well-filled.
Time for a relaxing cuddle-sleep.

Good morning Matsalu, tere hommikust merikotkad!
Thank you YT-chat, as always, for the timestamps!
04:36: Ella leaves and returns at 04:52.
She is away from 05:06 - 05:18.
05:45: Elmar brings a fish.
05:47: Ella is feeding until around 06:01.
06:09: Ella hops onto a branch at the left, where she stays for quite a while.
06:36: The eaglet 'works' with branches and twigs, nibbles at the lichen on the branches.

07:46: Eaglet -> PS.
07:49: Ella flies over to the observation tree and returns at 07:52 with a bunch of hay.
07:54 - 08:05: Next feeding.
09:24: Elmar perches at the right, Ella is watching something at the left.
09:33: Elmar flies over to the obs.tree.
Ella and her eaglet.
- Something has changed: Both parents leave their eaglet alone for a longer time - at least one parent seems always to be around. The eaglet slowly begins to use its legs, sitting works fine, and we will surely have a lot of breathtaking moments when the eaglet moves around in the nest.

10:58/59: Ella flies over the meadow to the right.
11:05: Elmar returns to the nest.
He takes a piece of fish and carries it to the left. The eaglet sits up, 'pumps' up his legs and: one step, two steps, I think it's about four or five: it reaches its goal. Great!

Elmar stays with his eaglet. "My fish, my Dad and I".
13:43: The eaglet very clearly tells Elmar that it is hungry - now! Elmar begins to feed.
14:15: Already a well-filled crop. There seems to be room for more ...
14:20: Finished! Elmar goes to the left, cleaning his beak and then perching there.
14:29: Elmar moves a little closer to the nest, as if preventing the eaglet to come too close to where he perches.

Direct comparison of wings:
14:50: Elmar flies over to the observation tree.
14:53: One of the parents perches at the right, coming from the left.
15:00: It is Ella. She hops onto the p-branch, then into the nest.
15:33 ff.: Some strange voices. Ella is looking to the grounds. - I've no idea what this could have been.
16:13 and 16:18: Again these strange voices.
17:08: A buzzard calls. Tits are rather loud.
