12:57: Elmar leaves and flies to the left, high up in the sky.
Ella is busy with keeping her eaglet within her range, the little one wants to fuss around everywhere, it seems. She tries to direct it with her beak, amidst her 'struggle' an elk is passing the meadow.

Image

No position seems to really fit and feel comfortable, mother's belly, yes, but it has grown, shade: yes, but where?

Image

 YT-chat, quote: "Górа the child was bored to sleep, he wants to explore the world. today he makes other sounds" - very good observation, I have noticed this new set of sounds as well. It's more like a click-click, we will perhaps find out and learn what these sounds may mean: frustration, excitement, whatever ...
- 13:48: The eaglet is rather clingy today - it needs a little more body contact. There were and are phases where being alone or not being covered is perfectly OK, but sometimes you need a parent closer to you - that's what it looks like to me.

Our eaglet is sleeping. But it has loooong been very talkative, always moving, so Ella did not really have much time to restore her energy.

Image

16:54: Ella flies over to the observation tree.
17:18: Eaglet alone at home. Preening and looking and preening and going back to sleep.

Image

17:22: Ella is back - she jumps in from the right. I didn't even notice that she was there :puzzled:
17:34: In touch with Ella - now we can imagine what it may look like when she turns her back to us and we see just a little bit of the eaglet.

About 18:25, Ella begins to feed the eaglet. She carries the fish from one place to the other and starts with some pieces of the fish tail. She is eating as well, and I think I have seen that she produces some extra saliva when feeding a drier piece.

Image

Already finished at 18:32.
18:32:13: Ella walks around the eaglet and uses her right claw to gently make it sit up,
so that she can cover it easier.

18:44: Elmar lands on the p-branch, Ella calls (angry, it sounds to me). He comes bare-handed. (It took me a while to find out - due to her reaction - who that WTE on the p-branch was.)
18:53: Ella flies off, straight ahead to the woods, calling from the distance.
18:56: Elmar finally enters the nest.
19:14: Elmar begins to feed until about 19:34.
19:34: Duck down, arriba la branch-ista! - Ella arrives with a complicated big (what else, ha) branch and half knocks out her eaglet. Oh dear ...

Image

Elmar leaves only seconds later. - The eaglet is alright.
20:16: Eaglet -> PS.

Image

And it is still hungry, Ella feeds from 20:18 on. Feeding ends around 20:33 - big crop!

Good morning everybody and thank you very much BDrieliņi for reporting and the nice video clip! :2thumbsup:

07:55: Elmar brings fish and leaves at 08:26.

Image

09:01 - 09:13: Ella is feeding.

Image

10:16: Ella flies over to the observation tree.
10:21: Elmar appears on the p-branch and then hops into the nest, cleans up a little.
The eaglet gnaws at a stick.

10:39: Another milestone for the eaglet: first time seriously nibbling at the food. Elmar then takes over the feeding, but has watched patiently what his offspring is doing.

Image

10:45 ff.: And our eaglet continues with its efforts, Elmar offers a 'helping beak'.
11:01 ff.: Elmar is still busy with feeding the ever-hungry eaglet. Big portion of food = more time til the next feeding.

- Not only the eaglet is making big progress. Our eagle parents as well have really grown into their parental duties. (The only thing Ella has to refine is: bringing big branches when there is an eaglet on the nest  )

:hi: IceAge!
Elmar spends time with his eaglet - Ella has some time off.
The eaglet has picked at Elmar's wing feathers: Kid, what are you up to?

Image

Elmar rearranges the big branch Ella brought yesterday.

Image

The eaglet gives him one of those 'eagle kisses'.

14:33: "You guard the food, I guard you!"

Image

15:01: Eaglet -> PS.
15:12: Elmar -> PS.
15:14: Ella arrives with a big bunch of hay.

Image

15:17: Elmar flies down to the right, then soars upwards to the left.
15:31: Ella begins to feed until 15:47. - That was interesting: 15:48 -> the eaglet had got hold of a piece with at least 3 long fishbones - Ella takes it away from him and eats it herself. The eaglet cries 'protest!'.
16:20 - approx.-: The crop is not full enough (yes, yes ...), the eaglet demands more.
16:44: Now the moment of "rien ne vas plus" seems to be reached. The eaglet is in food-coma.

17:31 ff.: The well-fed eaglet in full display :D

Image

18:49: Elmar appears on the p-branch.
18:51: Ella flies over to the observation tree.
18:53: When Elmar enters the nest, it becomes clear that he has actually brought something which looks like very dry fish, maybe just a half of it. He lets it slip, but catches it again and is now eating it.

Image

19:00 ff.: Unbelievable - the eaglet with a very full crop is interested, well, to taste this must be allowed, right?

19:15:19: Elmar branches at the left, he has seen his mate already. Ella starts off from the meadow down at the right, circles and flies towards the nest tree - but not to the p-branch - as I expected - she perches somewhere below the nest at the left at 19:15:27. She has carried presumably hay in her claws. (Or a branch?)
I have found her, her head is just above the time stamp.

Image

:rotf: Oh my goodness, she did it again - a big branch has somehow to be carried up to the nest. Watch from 19:16:45 on - you can see her swinging something around, length of a spear  , she then tries to get closer to the nest and works her way up, but she obviously has given up when she finally appears on the p-branch without anything at 19:20.- Lesson learnt: If you have found such a wonderful big branch, don't fly directly to the nest, eaglets and mates might be knocked over and/or out. (I sincerely hope this is a lesson she HAS learnt ...)
19:21: Elmar flies away and returns at 19:27 with a nice clawful of grass - looks like a comforting gesture.

Image

19:33: Elmar leaves from the p-branch down to the right.

20:36: Elmar brings fresh fish!

Image

20:38: The eaglet begins to wake up - Ella is eating. And has to feed again from 20:39 until about 20:47.
Every eagle on this nest tree is tired now, due to different reasons - good night!

Tere hommikust merikotkad and observers!

The cam obviously was off at night and transmission begins at around 06:00.

06:02: Eaglet ->PS :thumbs:

Image

06:43: Ella is feeding until 06:54.

Image

08:10: The eaglet is busy with preening, but in due time, Elmar will bring some new fish.

08:11: Elmar with more food.

Image

Ella is feeding from 08:13 until 08:27.
09:44: Ella flies to the observation tree.
09:56: Elmar, busy hunter, returns with another fish and feeds until about 10:04. Now the two need some rest.

Image

10:36/37: The eaglet is a little restless and utters some new sounds.
10:45: Eaglet -> PS
11:27: Eaglet -> PS over the rear nest rim.
11:32: The eaglet picks a morsel of the food all by himself - yeah!

Image

And it continues to practise this ability, Elmar is watching very attentively what his eaglet does.
11:37: He then begins to feed. Until about 11:57.
At noon, the cam drops out.

12:19: Cam is back. Still Elmar on the nest and the eaglet is sleeping.
12:23: Ella returns with a beautiful leafy twig, Elmar flies over to the observation tree and Ella takes some bites.

Image

12:27: Ella begins to feed. - Until around 12:31. The eaglet lays its head on the leafy pillow.
12:52: Alarm! Ella calls, someone is soaring over the nest tree, Elmar instantly flies off the observation tree and chases this bird away. He then perches on the p-branch.

Image

This is the stranger (was it a WTE or not?) at 12:52:27:

13:26: Ella flies over to the observation tree. Elmar, who had been sitting on the p-branch, jumps into the nest at 13:32.
14:00: And here they are, eagle father and eaglet.

Image

14:06: Ella is back with a clawful of straw/hay.

Image

14:10: Now Elmar flies to the observation again and Ella covers her eaglet.
14:41: Ella stands -> short calls - she hopes for change, I guess, but: no.
15:03/04: She accidentally steps on the eaglet, squeak!, but then she starts to feed, Ella has drawn fish plus leafy twig to the corner.

15:25 f.: Ella -> short calls. She is watching. (She seems a bit nervous to me today - but eagles are never nervous without a reason.) She manages to venture a light nap, unless flies and gnats don't bother her.
15:33:10 f.: I think this could have been a woodpigeon flying to the top of the nest tree.

17:08: Eaglet -> PS, then Ella eats and the eaglet calls for food. Ella serves a snack at 17:15/16, but then she is busy with nest cleaning and digging in the nest bowl, the eaglet clearly is frustrated, but: that's life!
18:41 ff.: The eaglet is calling loud - both seem to be waiting for food supply. Ella does some nestauration and rearranges twigs and sticks - her way of dealing with this.

Image

18:48: Eaglet -> PS. Ella leaves at 18:58 and flies over to the observation tree.
19:07: Elmar returns, no food.

Image

The eaglet nibbles at some fishbone remains, Elmar takes it away - not for kids at this age and in this form ....Elmar would, if he only could feed his eaglet, of course.

20:09: Sleeping like the grown-ups - head tucked in the non-existent back feathers 8-)

Image

20:18: Ella crashes down on the eaglet with a big fish. (This female with her sometimes hazardous landings, carrying something big, long or heavy, always running the risk to knock one of her loved ones out... aaaah!). But she procures the dinner and makes her eaglet happy.
