Susanne, during your absence there was no WTE to be seen, they were waiting for you  .

IceAge, I thank them from the bottom of my heart for this!

14;44/45: 'Smiley' is on the nest now.
14:46: E 340 flies down to the meadow ( he's probably collecting new material).
14:49:10: And there he is.
Digging and working and a bit 'wrestling' because E 340 as well as 'Smiley' would like to lie down - allright, E 340 is the 'bowl architect' and wins.

Image

15:11: E 340 gets up, onto p-branch and then flying to the left.'Smiley' 's turn in the bowl.
15:12:55 ff.: Eagle calls. They had watched the left very attentively, maybe there was another WTE that had to be kept away.- 'Smiley' seems to be rather calm.
15:28/29: A male is calling. - 'Smiley' answers shortly.
15:35: E 340 is back with another big bunch of hay/straw. - And back in his bed as well.
15:38: 'Smiley' moves to the p-branch now.

Image

I thought he was very tired.
15:49: Mating onthe M/p-branch.

No, it's pets disturbing wildlife, a big problem for skylarks, lapwings and other birds that breed on the ground, also hares and deers.

15:58: E 340 flies off to the right. 'Smiley' hesitates - shall I stay or shall I go? She decides to jump into the nest at 15:59/16:00.

:hi: Sigge! I think the problem is "The Other End of the Leish"(Patricia McConell).

16:38: By now, 'Smiley' has decided to finally lie down and incorporate the material which E 340 has brought.

Image

17:18:57: 'Smiley' -> PS over the nest rim. Back into nest.
17:58: -> p-branch, PS and preening.

'Smiley' is alert: there are TWO eagles in the sky on the left.

Image

One of them circles from the left onto the nest tree, 'Smiley' calls.

Image

18:10: This stranger flies off to the left and circles back over the meadow to the right.
18:39: 'Smiley' leaves.

Good morning everybody!

IceAge, I have to correct you: this was not 'Smiley', this was a male we have seen before:

10:26: Arrival 'Smiley' with a twig.

Image

She's working in the nest bowl.
10:39: Arrival E 340. - Both are quite alert.

Image

10:46:20: 'Smiley' ->short whining, there must be another WTE around. (Quite likely, this floater-boy is still interested in the nest site.)
10:47:45: 'Smiley' perches on the middle branches. - E 340 lies down in the nest bowl.
11:02: Short duet.
11:07: 'Smiley' ->PS. - Duet. - They fly away at 11:07:50 ff. to the right. (Controlling their territory, I guess.)

I always associate 'mild, sweet, soft' with Smiley's face/head. She has rather delicate features (in my opinion), now these are not scientific terms to describe an eagle's head, but this is what helps me at first sight to come to the conclusion: Smiley- rather yes, Smiley-rather no. The WTE this morning had a rather 'grim' face (which of course has nothing to do with his state of mind), and THEN I looked at the feet (always ame in mind: Look at the feet! Fleshy ankles, yes or no? - not at all times easy to determine). - And as always: tailmarks, tailmarks, tailmarks.

12:29 f.: Short eagle calls - not very far away.
12:55 ff.: Beautiful bird song! Song thrush?
14:15/16 ff.: Eagle calls.
14:40: Landing on the p-branch, calling, preening, a down stuck to her beak - 'Smiley'.
14:54: short calls.
14:57: short calls. - Is she telling E 340 to come home and bring some fish?
15:07: PS, then she dives down to the meadow and collects more material.
15:10: Back in the nest bowl.

Image

15:37: 'Smiley' leaves and flies down to the right. She has changed her position in the nest bowl several times; she eyes something at the left (or circling around?), stands up and flies off.

The nest has become a really nice round bowl:

16:04 ff.: Black Woodpecker, very loud. I hear some pecking-crackling sounds - I think he's in the nest tree.
16:23: And again.-
16:42 ff. (and before): Busy with carpentry now for quite a while.

Mar 24

Good morning Matsalu, good morning guest eagles and hopefully others, too!

10:04:59: A still spotty subadult lands on a middle branch.

Image

Ankles look rather fleshy - female? - Busy with preening now.

10:17: Aha, female business: 'Smiley' arrives at branch at the right and calls. The strange WTE ->PS and leaves. (I didn't see if 'Smiley' followed, but this was an easy one. "Occupado!" was the message, and the stranger understood without ado.)
10:33: 'Smiley' perches on the p-branch.
10:34/35: ... and hops into the nest.

Image

10:38: She is working her way up in the nest tree (on the right), cutting a suitable branch maybe?
