06.49 Cam on nest 1 during the night. It shows that this old nest now is used as a dining table. Feathers from yestersdays prey is seen in the middle of the nest. The prey - a smaller bird - was brought to the female on nest 2 at 15.20 yesterday - and taken to nest 1 and eaten there.

07.44 A treecreper on the run.
Very little to see at nest2 from the distance.
And soon fresh leaves might cover the view into the nest even more.
But we will be able to see the outcome of this breeding try.

As predicted is it now after leaf spring almost impossible to see what is going on in the nest.
Some viewers write that they have seen small eagle chicks above the nest edge.
And feeding of ckicks.
Anyway here is what Ole Friis and Kim Skelmose tell us around the breeding attempt. Written on the 4. of april.:
Kim Skelmose has noted that the female with the Swedish colour rings laid down to incubate on 10 March. In general, White-tailed Eagles incubate the eggs for 40 days before they hatch, so we are going around April 20 this year - but there is also individual variation, so it can only be an approximate date.
View of today into nest 2. With an almost closed window

16.14 om the cam, which is almost 8 minutes ahead of CET the male and a nice big chick are to see as the branches are turned out to the right by the wind. Feeding of the chick was seen at 15.15 o´clock.
So at least one chick and a successfull breeding attempt so far.
17.15 A better screenprint:
It looks as if there is only 1 chick in this nest.

JUN. 11.
08.01 Leaves in front of the camera has now been removed. And there is a much better view to the nest with the young eagle.
Just sitting there in heavy rain. Probably the young eagle has been ringed.
08.14 Fish deliery by the male who starts feeding the chick.
08.23 The chick eats itself and the male took off.

13.02 The female has taken noon rest on the branch to the east. But starts begging as the male obviously arrives with a prey. It takes off.
13.04 the male arrives at the branch and cleans its taloons and beak after have given the prey to the female and chick. I suppose.

JUNE 13.
DOF birdlife Denmark has now commented on the situation around he nest.
The eaglet is a female and has been ringed. Orange over alu H1 37
A lift was taken to the nest area to check also the possibillities to move the camera to the new nest before 2025.
Here is Oles comments on he ringing on Monday the 3. of June:

The baby eagle has been ringed
Written by Ole Friis Larsen on 13 June 2024 at 07.26
The chick in the nest was ringed on Monday 3 June. Sorry for the late announcement, but we wanted to get an article written and published first. The article and pictures from the ring marking can be seen here:
https://www.dof.dk/om-dof/nyheder?nyhed_id=2278
By ringing, the cub was determined to be a 50-day-old female. It weighed five kilos and was therefore at the top for a young eagle of that age. The weight was on top of that on an empty stomach - that is, an empty stomach. So it is a big and healthy youngster.
It was also unusual that there were no remains of prey at all in the nest. This means that everything was eaten and cleaned up. Some eagles are good at cleaning up the nests, others not - but we know that from humans too, right?
When the chick is a female, it will presumably fly from the nest late compared to the 70-78 days that are normally expected. With 50 days June 3rd will be one of the last days of June or right at the beginning of July.
The nest was just over a meter high and measured approximately 1.5 meters in diameter.
We had a lift with us into the forest and would have liked to have cut down some branches to create a better view of the nest, but the new nest is approximately 20 meters high, and the old nest a little lower. It proved impossible to stand down on the ground and realize which branch(s) were blocking the view from the camera to the nest 70 meters away. The people with the lift also judged that it would be too risky for us to attempt to cut away the very large branch, as it might be, without greater safety precautions. Therefore, we have to cope with the difficulties that exist for the rest of this season. Next year we can probably move the camera.

Albicilla,
thank you for reporting!
It would be wonderful to get a new cam view next season to follow! This season I have not followed just because of the diffuse view. I have followed this nest cam for many years when the eagles used the old nest and am fond of the landscape. Let's hope they manage to install the cam to the new location in future!
