Info from Kotkaklubi
The Golden Eagle nest camera is situated near a military training ground. Therefore military training noise is possible to hear quite often.
The purpose of this camera is to detect the reaction of breeding eagles to the noise disturbance heard.
We invite volunteers to participate in virtual Golden Eagle observations and record them in the appropriate forum (link above). The forum has instructions on how to become a member of the forum and how to post your observations there. This is also possible with pictures or videos proving the event. At the end of the season, we summarize all observations and analyze to what extent the particular Golden Eagle pair is affected by noise disturbances in the breeding area. If necessary, it is also possible to review the recorded video material. The expenses of this webcam are covered by the Centre for Defence Investments of Estonian Republic.

There in the same nest was one chick fledged in 2023 and 2022.
Adults are currently without rings. Male and female look quite similar, but the female is a bit bigger.

Info from Kotkaklubi

Golden Eagle nest camera near Central Training Field (Golden Eagle 2)
The Golden Eagle 2 (Kaljukotkas 2) nest camera is located in the extended danger area near the Central Training Field in Northern Estonia. The training of the Defense Forces involves rather noisy activities or moving a large number of equipment and people within the limits of the training ground. The National Defense Investment Center has ordered a study carried out by Eagle Club (Kotkaklubi) to analyze the effects of these activities on the eagles nesting in the vicinity of the training fields. Among other activities, we installed a nest camera on a Golden Eagle's.
Kaljukotkas 2 is a long-standing territory of Golden Eagles - one of the territories located south of Lahemaa National Park in Põhja-Kõrvemaa. On this territory, the nests have been located on various bogislands or at the edges of the bog; Golden Eagles generations have changed, but the territory has remained the same. Eagles have been nesting in this nest at the top of the big aspen since 2016. In recent years, the chicks here fledged, albeit at a later than average time. This indicates later than average laying of eggs. The chick of 2023 also got a tracker with the help of our German colleague Oliver Krone. He flew from the hatching territory to Latvia at the beginning of November, returned to Estonia at the beginning of December and spent the winter here. We haven't included any Golden Eagles to watch on the migration map because they tend to be quite stationary. Some of the young birds hatched in Estonia still move to Poland and Ukraine for the winter.
Both old birds are here without rings, so we do not know their age or origin.
You can watch the live broadcast from the nest on Eagle Club's YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/Kotkaklubi.
With this camera, we are asking for the help of those interested in documenting the observations in the forum viewtopic.php?p=919620#p919620
The purpose of the camera is to assess the impact of noise or other activities associated with military exercises on nesting Golden Eagles. Describing the behaviour of eagles in the forum gives an opportunity to analyze it and, if necessary, find a specific video clip from the recorded material. Due to the volume of the material, it is very time-consuming to process all the recordings at the end of the nesting period. Therefore, all descriptions of the specifics of the observed behaviour are welcome in the forum, there is no need to hold back. Nothing bad happens if two observers write about the same event at the same time. To join the forum, please write a letter to the forum administrator.

The nest camera was set up by Urmas Sellis and Gunnar Sein from Kotkaklubi and Omar Neiland (Beta Grupp OÜ). We use an AXIS F41 camera with a custom-made microphone by Omar. The microphone is attached under the nest, but as the nest height is almost 2 m, we might need to raise the microphone higher for the next season. Initially, we didn’t want to put too many new things at the nest level. The main part of the camera is located on the ground, the lens with the sensor is on a branch next to the nest. Therefore, the camera looks relatively small when viewed from the nest. In addition, we tried to hide the camera lens and cable as much as possible.
The camera is powered by solar panels. To save energy, the camera turns off when it gets dark. Live broadcast from the nest will resume at sunrise. We transmit the camera image via 4G mobile internet, so in case of intensive network use, there may be interruptions in the transmission. The same can happen during maintenance work or when there is not enough sun to charge the batteries. When the day gets longer and sunnier, we can keep the camera working around the clock.
The camera is streamed through Eagle Club Estonia’s YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/Kotkaklubi). We recommend following Kotkaklubi channel in case the broadcast needs to be restarted due to technical reasons, so the direct link of the broadcast may change. As the season progresses other nesting cameras of Estonian eagles and black storks, as well as the eagle owl camera, are featured on the Kotkaklubi channel.

The preparation and recording of the camera signal for streaming is carried out with the support of Estonian Nature Foundation (https://elfond.ee). Events in the nest are documented by the viewers in Looduskalender forum viewforum.php?f=18. The use of the stream from the nest is not prohibited for non-commercial purposes, but please let us know if possible (send a message to urmas(ät)kotkas.ee). Contributors are welcome with every camera, as some components need to be replaced yearly. The costs of this Golden Eagle camera are covered through procurement by the National Defense Investment Center (https://www.kaitseinvesteeringud.ee/en/). For comparison, we have a golden eagle camera in Soomaa National Park, which costs are covered with the help of Kotkaklubi supporters. Many thanks to all our supporters!

Good afternoon
In the video we can see the eagle's reaction to the noise of birds and the noise of a flying plane.

The pattern on the head is different: the female has a large brown forehead, the male has a forehead with light spots.

The eagle on the nest at 08:13 is the male. We can observe those same dark-blotched, frayed wing coverts of which Liz noted prior to the shift change at 17:30. The female has a primary remex (flight feather) that is ragged along the trailing edge of her left wing. It is often hidden, however. I failed to obtain a clear screenshot of it today.

Male:

Image

Edit: Female. Ragged primary remex of the left wing crossed under the right wing remiges. How do we know this is the female aside from larger size? Behavior. Longer periods incubating, and incubating during the dark hours are telling.

During a period of heavy explosive shelling, the male appears to track the flight path of unknown birds or objects. Before and after the below .gif as well. There is one definite startle at 09:43:58, characterized by a jolting turn of the head. It occurs after a brief silence and coincides with another pulse of shelling. This can be viewed during the last frames of the following clip.

29. March

At about 9.00, I heard a noise which sounded(to me) like aeroplanes(or helicopters, or big vehicles???). Later, until 11.00 there was intensive shooting noise. As Ravens wrote, not much attention from bird.
After 16.00 shooting again.

The male was incubating for 3 hours, 43 minutes. 08:48-12:31. This stands out in contrast to Helju and Kalju's nesting behavior in Soomaa, and Lucina and Caliman's patterns last season (no eggs thus far in 2024). Kalju usually incubates for under an hour, with an hour and twelve minutes being among the longest stints.

Is this normal at this eyrie? Is it related to the military training conducted today?
Unfortunately I can't provide the time this season to help with much citizen science.
