The old female, Baronessen was today found dead some few 100 meters away from the nest. Maybe killed in battle, Streambird manager says. I hope some investigations will take place. https://www.streambird.no/post/baroness ... t-d%C3%B8d
The remains of the old female in the front. The nest is to be seen in the pines in the back ground
The skeleton

Baronessen was last seen on the 29. of Sep. - and maybe heard on the 12. Oct.

Living next door to the B&B nest tells us memories:
Johannes Schrøder "Every good thing comes to an end"
Remember even the day we registered with pleasure that there was activity again in the nest that the Baron and Baronessa have "ruled" over for almost a decade. It was back in 2011 .... Before 2011, the nest was uninhabited for almost 30 years, before that time I have no info on activity in this area.
It has been very exciting to follow the couple, both before streambird and livestream, but even more interesting after Svein Junge and co installed camera at the nest.
The breeding success of this pair has been good, and every year after establishment they have produced young (s). In my experience, it is very rare for sea eagles to manage, which may prove that Baron and Baronessa have been very capable and good parents.
Now it will be exciting to see in time if the baron finds a new partner, or maybe he chooses the bachelor life in the future?

Oh, what sad news
Baronessen was a beautiful, strong eagle and despite her disability she raised many eaglets. It is not known whether Baron will find a new female this season. Perhaps the nest will remain empty. I've watched this nest since 2013 and maybe it won't be young there for the first time. The same happened in Denmark after the killing by people of a previous female (she also got limped on one foot)

08.53 Baron in with a stick. NF just behind.
Baron works with the stick. NF helps a little bit, else keeping an eye on the surroundings.
NF goes to left branch.
09.03 Baron takes off to the left. NF follows Baron.

That's sad. But it's also good to know what happened to her. Many stay away and we can only guess ..

Many calls from outside:
06.54.58 NF short
06.55.37 NF short
07.17.12 Baron short
07.17.39 Long call by Baron + NF
07.42.22 An eagle is passing right out front
07.42.48 Baron + NF call
09.33 Baron in with a stick. And out at 09.54 after rest and feather care.
09.39 A very upset Coal Tit gives warning calls. Very angry at the presence of Baron. After all this peace and silence around the nest. Baron noticed it with a look.

15.24 A sea eagle circles on the other side of the strait just ahead, and an eagle near the nest calls.
It sounded like NH.

Silence around the nest.
But 2 eagles were calling loud and clear today.
And for long.
