Climate change is causing birds to shrink

As the climate warms, birds are shrinking and their wingspans are growing, according to a new study:

Almost 500 million animals are killed since September in Australia

Millions of animals are dead and hundreds of thousands more will perish over coming days as a result of widespread bushfires in southeast Australia.

Native wildlife and agricultural livestock are among the fatalities, with already-endangered species at greater risk of extinction.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/world/australia ... -nsw-alone

Although 2019's bushfires have destroyed more land than any other fires in the last 25 years, Prime Minister of Australia hasn't considered climate change yet.

Let's hope more and more countries won't deny climate crisis for economical reasons any longer and take further steps quickly to reduce global warming...

1.2 billion (!) - the WWF estimates the number of animals that have been killed in bush fires in Australia so far. Every day, koalas, wombats and many other animals burn miserably in the forests of the continent. Now it is known that almost 10,000 wild camels are to be killed in addition. According to the administrative agency of an area in the interior of the country, the animals tear down fences in desperate search for fresh water, destroy air conditioning systems and penetrate houses. Therefore, the authority has now released the animals for shooting.

That is not enough for them!
.....It has been burning in Australia for months. The Australian government has now ordered to shoot up to 10,000 camels. In addition, the disaster alarm in the state of Victoria currently applies.

They made fireworks anyway! Many of these fires have been put on purpose. Now they are killing innocent animals!

It's a big shame, they have an disastrous government. They deny the climate change, they produce coal without an end and so on...

the first WTE couple since immemorial has started attempting breeding near down-town Helsinki:
https://www.hs.fi/kaupunki/helsinki/art ... 99471.html

a WTE couple has started refurnishing a grey heron's nest for their own use on island Loppi (the Swedish name of the island is Klobben), about 5 km away from the centre of Helsinki.

the nest is well visible from several bird watching towers around the bay Vanhankaupunginselkä.

a video of the eagles here:

i posted the same story in the Latvian WTE topic and here:

Fossil of the 'wonderchicken'

A hobby paleoontologist found a sandstone in a quarry near the Belgian-Dutch border from which some broken bones protruded.

Investigations revealed that the stone contained a complete bird fossil. The stone is about 67 million years old and thus dates from a time shortly before the asteroid hit the earth(*). This makes it the oldest fossil of a modern bird that has ever been found.

How these cranes escaped a life as status symbol pets in Rwanda

They were captured as chicks and kept as status symbol pets in the gardens of hotels and private homes.
Olivier Nsengimana, a vet in Kingali, the capital of Rwanda had found it strange to hear cranes calling from people's gardens, while wild habitats were almost wiped out. He managed it that today nearly no more cranes remain in captivity. In 2020 they count almost 900 gray crowned cranes in the wild.

The World's oldest known banded wild albatross got a chick
Biologists first identified and banded Wisdom in 1956, but the very first albatross was banded on Midway Atoll in 1936.
“At least 70 years old, we believe Wisdom has had other mates,” said U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist Dr. Beth Flint.
