yesterday happened all sorts of things so i nearly forgot this:
in Estonia (and elsewhere with EET) the equinox happened at 00:45 two nights ago, on March 20th.
for Alice near the West coast of USA the time was 20 Mar at 15:45. her time zone is lagging 9 hours from UTC and 11 hours EET. now her clock says 5:16 in the morning and she's probably sleeping...
we are on the sunnier side of our path around the Sun.
http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/spring-equinox.htmlSpring Equinox – Vernal Equinox
The spring (vernal) equinox in the Northern Hemisphere is the autumnal (fall) equinox in the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa. Equinoxes and solstices happen twice a year.
On the two equinoxes every year the sun shines directly on the equator and the length of day and night is nearly equal – but not quite.
March equinox 2015: March 20, at 22:45 UTC.

Great photos of the eclipse, Ame, and a great way to get them. People tried all sorts of dangerous things ...

lianaliesma had posted this mail in the Juras-Erglis thread but i think a more suitable place is here:
(i just wonder where that picture was taken and when. it is not nearly so sunny here or in Estonia nor in Latvia this time of the year. almost on the contrary: rain and storm. )
thank you lianaliesma!
what an exquisite photograph and a funny reindeer gif.

i guess that it must have been taken later in real winter time. at least in Finland the landscape may look like that in February, but not on many winter solstice days. for one: the Sun is shining, and secondly it is rather high in the sky. thirdly: there's a lot of snow.
