Re: White-tailed Eagles Nest Cam Discussion 2011-2012

Post by ame »

buzzards were working at the nest after 8. they have been bringing twigs, fresh greeneries, so it looks rather settled now. here they worked at 8.12.

at 12.37 they were flying around and calling to each other. then the other landed on the nest for a while and called there. the other answered from the air but didn't come so the other took off, too. they then flew around the nest in a bridal flight i guess.

now there is more meowing around there. a jay is not happy, and neither is the blackbird. getting buzzards living next door is not good news for them.

Maybe we should rename this as Buzzard Nest cam Discussion?

Or will the occupying power change again?

Jo, I don´t want to be a pessimist - but I´d still wait a few days with renaming it ...

the buzzard worked for a while bringing new twigs to the nest. then it settled on the branch and is looking around at the forest and preening itself. here one trip at 14.37.

the buzzard left at 15.10. this bird who has been here most is browner than the other which is more grey i think. and i think that the one who builds the nest should be the female. :puzzled:

bringing in something new? it's difficult to see if they bring in just something small. the logs that Sulev dragged here were impossible to miss.

looking around and preening.

Jo :hi: : i agree with Bea: maybe it is a bit too early to rename this thred even though the buzzards seem to like the nest. BUT: we could start a new year/season.

at 18.03 two bluetits visited the nest, or actually only one was in the nest. the other was hanging on twigs on the left side of the nest.

Ame, thank you for your videos of today, a great summary when I come home from work. The Buzzard couple seems serious about this nest, let's hope the neighbourhood is safe so they can stay here.

Thank you for all the videos & photos, Ame, Mutikluti, Lussi, & Venegor. :loveshower:

I especially liked this picture of the pair in the nest-- it looks like he is standing on her head! :rotf:

Today after dawn what I saw:

@ Jo, I was sorry to read about your cat's health crisis but I am glad to hear the cat is improving. RE: the forum change of name, I agree that it should wait for a few days, just to be sure. It could be called Buzzards at Old WTE Nest or something similar.

buzzards are working atthe nest, and what is maybe more important: they are just sitting there on the branches and looking around. i think they are making sure it is a good place to stay.

I was thinking of the word plump as well -- they seem cute and well contented

here's a rather long video of their doings this morning, but i think it shows well what it is like in the forest: lots of bird song and peaceful atmosphere. :innocent:

EDIT(at 9.28): they seem to be having a break now. - here's a shorter clip with some more nestbuilding.

you're welcome Kitty!

the buzzard came again at 14.04. i like these fellows beacause they quite often call from far "i'm coming!" and then i have some chances to get recording started by the time they jump into the nest. :D
Image

Image

no-one else came so this bird stopped calling and began preening and looking around.
Image

then it walked further along the branch and out of the picture. after that it has called every now and then so it is still sitting there, at least still at 14.21 it was.

both buzzards came at 15.27. this time they didn't stay very long.
there was also a curlew calling in the background. i haven't heard that before this spring. there was also a common snipe calling, plus a lot of thrushes.
Image

at 15.35 one returned!
Image

it's talking silently (to itself?)

i think i'll have to turn the camera off now. i must do other things...
