October 28 - news of SE29
SE29 received a badly broken leg just above its talons when it flew into a wall or window in early October. It has been under vet care since that time. Vets attempted to stabilise the break with splints, however this has not been successful. Yesterday SE29 underwent surgery to stabilise the fracture using an external fixation device. The surgery went well and vets are happy with the result. However, there are many possible complications that may still arise as the talons and feet are such a vital structure for raptors and it needs to gain 100% functionality in order for it to be a success. If the fixation works, then SE29 will be rehabilitated. If not successful then the birds ongoing welfare will be assessed. Recovery and healing is a slow process and updates on its progress will be infrequent. Your understanding in this matter is appreciated :puzzled:

Rebuilding Bald Eagle & Osprey Nests after Hurricane Ian

By Window To Wildlife

Hurricane Ian wrecked the homes of Connie & Clive (Bald Eagles) as well as Andy & Lena (Osprey). We are rebuilding the nest and replacing destroyed cameras in the first week of November. Sadly, this is not cheap. If you would like to contribute to the nest & cam rebuilds, we would be grateful.
