Small Bird Feeder Webcam Forum 2012 - 2013
The seventh season of the Winter Bird Feeder Cam has started. This year we use a Mobotix vario camera, and for the third year communication is mobile. The camera stream is carried from Otepää to the Eenet server in Tartu by way of the Elisa MiNT connection. With 3,5G technology it is fast enough to ensure smooth transmission.
Our feathered friends get BALSNACK bird food.
The camera is at Otepää, outside the office window of LOODUSEMEES.ee . The location is slightly different from earlier. We will see the behaviour of wintering birds in an urban environment; interesting photos for Looduskalender are sure to come from Arne.
The bird feeder guests will be introduced by and by, and the forum is open to all members.
The new buffet stand was made by the Eesti Esindus craftsmen advised by the nature men. Local timber was used and the food bowl is made of lime. See http://www.eestiesindus.ee.
The Saku Läte water bottle holds bird food nicely too. See http://www.sakulate.ee.
EENet multiplies the streamed image as needed for viewers. The Flash player l works in all web browsers supporting Flash.
Direct stream (JWPlayer) address: http://pontu.eenet.ee/player/toidumaja.html
For those who use VLC: rtsp://193.40.133.138/live/toidumaja

Yes, I saw that pigeon fight, too. Here is how it began.
And now, it is very far past my bedtime, nearly 2:00 a.m. for me. So Goodnight / Good day to all. Enjoy the cams today, & I will enjoy all the photos, videos, & gifs when I come back in a few hours. Now I am & soon

Good night Kitty!
How nice, the sun is shining from the left side towards the feeding place!

I was watching the pigeon walking around on the ground, and then it was eying the feeder -- you could easily see the pigeon thinking about making the jump -- of course I was too busy watching to capture that look.

It sure is a cute little thing.
The birds seem very serious about their food. A black bird with its beautiful orange beak is working hard now.

Good morning all. What a fantastic webcam!
Does anyone else have concerns about the green, plastic mesh containing the fatballs. I never use them as I believe birds can get their claws, feet and even beaks caught in the mesh. I do know that the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) in the UK recommend that the mesh is removed from fatballs.
May I also say .. if you buy fatballs then get them from a reputable supplier as the cheap ones can contain unsuitable ingredients. Just remove the mesh and place the fat-balls in a container similar to the one on the webcam. Best of all is to make your own if you have time. ( google "fatball recipes" )
Happy viewing everyone and thanks to all concerned for such a great webcam. No housework for me today as I will be glued to the monitor!
