17.Statoil’s Arctic oil-terminal neighbors unique bird cliffs. Norway, February 2013

“Eco-groups in Norway fear oil-tankers will run aground and destroy Gjesværstappan, one of Northern Norway’s largest bird rocks that are located a few kilometers from Statoil’s new oil-terminal at North Cape.” According to Barents Observer, Gjesværstappan, is “one of the most spectacular bird cliffs on the coast of Finnmark. Birds that are nesting on the cliffs includes kittiwakes, cormorants, shags, guillemots, puffins and white-tailed eagles.”

28.Austrian eagle winter count sets new record. March 2013

According to Flora Hejjas, leader of the WWF´s White-tailed Eagle Protection Programme, 148 White-tailed Eagles could be counted this year in Austria. Most of the wintering visitors (56) were observed in the Morava-Dyje floodplains.
The White-tailed Eagle is still a threatened species in Austria. Last year the local WtE population raised 15 chicks.

The emergency service was called on Tuesday near Norrköping, because people thought they saw a drowning person about 200 metres away from the Marby bathing beach on the edge of the ice.
When the rescue team arrived and tried to get closer, the “man” flew away.

White-tailed eagles are very rare visitors in Belgium. This young bird, which was spotted near Gent in the Lys valley, was ringed. So it is known that the eagle came from Germany.
