No idea, actually I got the link to the cameras and forums through Czech webforum I often attend, where one of the discussion groups is about animals. How did the person who posted the link find out about it, I don´t know. It was certainly before the interview and information appeared on TV, though.

The trees look more isolated than I might have guessed -- I mean there is space around them. Now it seems all full of leaves.

Nature cameras were voted as THE "Estonian Matter (or Thing) 2011" - "Eesti Asi" - with 40,8% of all votes cast in a poll arranged by newspaper Eesti Päevaleht, EPL.

Nature cameras in Estonia are of course first and foremost the Looduskalender, "our", cameras.
So congratulations to Mr Looduskalender Gennadi Skromnov and his teams and all of us.

85 000 votes were cast during the 2 1/2 month voting process, a record for this kind of newspaper polls in Estonia, and some 30 things and ventures competed.

Maybe Estonian members can please tell more more about Eesti Asi

Only very few know how much work precedes the pleasant viewing of the nest cam image on the computer screen. The fact is that if during incubation time, the image is lost because of technical failure, then the public will not see the chicks hatched; the dangers of serious interference to the birds is too great.[to risk repairs].

What can be seen in the cameras is a big gamble. For example, this year, the WTE camera instead lets you in on buzzards’ doings. In previous years , a mallard duck laid eggs in the WTE nest, and its eggs became prey to an accidentally passing WTE.

Eerik Kumari (7 March 1912 – 8 January 1984; born as Erik Mathias Sits) was a doctor of biology, the founder of ornithology and nature conservation in Estonia, the learned director of the Institute of Zoology and Botany at the Estonian Academy of Sciences during 1952-1977. He was the president of the Estonian Naturalists' Society in 1954–1964.

The Eerik Kumari Award was established in 1989 in his name to honor those who have excelled in bioscience in Estonia.

Looduskalender was founded 10 years ago by Gennadi Skromnov.
Looduskalender webcameras are watched from 183-186 countries over the years. Most are from Estonia, then Germany, Finland, Netherlands etc. Very many watchers are from Asia (unfortunately China blocks any live stream)

Why are people watching? Because it is so neutral with positive energy, why not to watch?
How much feed back do you get? We have the forum with registered members and strict rules. This is a place, where people can exchange their thoughts and opinions. It´s a fantastic place where there is almost scientific work (research) done. It´s a very rare website in the world where amateurs and professionals can cooperate. Everything what happens on webcams is registered by members all over the word with accuracy in minutes. Our ornithologists who are mostly doing fieldwork during summertime are not able to watch cameras. They get exact information from forum and also from recorded materials.
Have you heard how children react to what they see on cameras? Yes, in some kindergartens they are watching birdcam in the mornings with big interest. It´s a kind of meditation. It´s good that they maybe learn 3-4 species during season.
Why don´t you try to earn money with your cameras? Put there a kind of button or link or something... I think there would not be so many watchers if we would do that. And why should we spoil Nature cameras with this kind of information.
So it´s your mission? Yes, for decades already.
Very interesting fact about fish camera. In Taiwan they want to use it as interior decoration and you have to work out how to add sound in real time to it. Yes, it´s not a problem, this autumn we have to cover ground it.
