Greater Spotted Eagle Camera Biebrzą Valley Poland 2013

Post by Felis silvestris »

A Polish project in the Biebrzą Valley to protect and study Greater Spotted Eagles (Aquila clanga) has opened a nest camera at a GSE nest. For now I don't know what we will get to see, but hopefully a successful nesting of Geater Spotted Eagles. It will be interesting to note the similarities and differences between the Greater and the Lesser Spotted Eagles:

In the meantime we have heard this is the nest of GSE "Zygmunt", whose migration can be followed by this map: http://aqc.aquila-it.pl/index.php?optio ... 89&lang=en

We are waiting for the arrival of the eaglet at the nest. This year is unlucky. The majority of projects in Poland is coming across problems.

We hope that they will arrive to the nest. It is first transmission of this type in Poland.

Project financed from centres of the LIFE+ European Commission and from centres of the National Fund of the environmental protection.

The nest belongs to Zygmunt. At present he is located in Turkey. He is returning to Poland. Foresters are expecting it within a week, of two weeks.

Thank you bielikoholik for the information. Zygmunt's map I have linked in the Database:

I hope he is returning safely to his nest and we can have a look into the GSE nest life!

Looks like Zygmunt should have reached Poland by now and maybe the nest already. I have not yet seen anything, but I can't keep the window open all the time.

Unfortunately... transmission was finished.
The transmission online was stopped! On account of choosing through of "Zygmunt" of other den - by the decision of initiators and project coordinators the transmission online from the nest was stopped. We are inviting in a year! "

We can't tell the birds which nest to choose, or to breed. Maybe next year there is another chance.
Thanks bielikoholik for letting us know whatever you have come to know!

From the project website:

http://en.orlikgrubodzioby.org.pl/artyk ... o-the-nest

We will have a look again next year, maybe then we will be more lucky! Thanks to the project and to everyone here showing interest!

If the migration map is provided again, we will follow Zygmunt on his migration and hope for his safe return!

The project website had some news on Zygmunt recently. Unfortunately it looks like the data logger Zygmunt is carrying has either stopped working, got lost or something happened to Zygmunt.

There is again a migration map provided for the autumn migration of tagged Greater Spotted Eagles, this time one individual from Russia is also included and it is interesting to see which route a bird from so much further east is taking and where it is wintering.
