A crow is busy nagging through the grounds ....

10:13/14 Alla demands attention. Their elongated signal is heard twice.

10:15 Ruudi flutters into the nest, calling.
He also finds the view particularly beautiful....

I don't know if these two are aware that we're waiting for eggs here? :dunno:

10:16 Ruudi leaves the nest after Alla reports neediness in the area.

pairing - quite a long mating even if Alla is to be believed. :whistling:

10:18 Short check-in by Ruudi

10:21Alla calls with a high tone and kickers in the field.

10:23 ...quietly she comes into the nest.
Alla nestles, sorts branches. Again in the area of the trunks of the nest tree. It seems important to her there.

Ps: Alla is well fed. A big strong female. :innocent:

10:26 Alla leaves the nest.
I hear a high pitched sound. But I can't tell whether it's from Alla or Ruudi due to the delay in sound and picture.

10:27, '51 Alla...
I think a woodpecker calls with her.

10:56 Begging calls and quick calls from Alla.

11:01 woodpecker?

11:28 Mood in the area.
Sounds like a mixture of great excitement and mating noises... it must have been both. However, I don't think mating was consummated at this point.

11:30 Ruudi comes loudly into the nest
... after a lot of doing nothing out in '32.

11:37 Ruudi in with soft noises - and out again almost immediately.

11:40:47 short loud call from x. Hmm, woodpecker too?

Otherwise absolute apparent calm ... very early siesta. Well, they weren't that busy today.

13:07 Ruudi brings a branch and yes - now he's exercising ....- and is clumsy. :innocent:

Ruudi soon decides that the view is too great to work on. :D

13:12 Ruudi leaves the nest when requested.

The goshawk camera started transmitting:

Very informative and I think it belongs in the hopefully new topic on page 1.

Many thanks @Hellem!
Tartu RMK kontori taga aiandis valmistub kanakullipaar pesitsema.

GT
A pair of chickens are preparing to nest in the garden behind the Tartu RMK office. For the first time, we can now observe the activities of hens at the nest in real time.

The rare owl's nest is located on the pine of RMK's garden test stand, at a height of about 14-15 meters. The owl's nest was built in the spring and winter of last year, and at the end of the breeding season, four nice owls were ringed here.

The male bird has been familiar to Tartu bird lovers since 2016, when the bird was operating in the Raadi protected area. That's where he got his name - Raadi Ruudi. However, Alla got a bigger name than Powder and with lighter feathers.
Ruudi on teadaolevalt ehitanud juba viis pesa, millest kaks on olnud paplil, üks haaval, üks praegusest pesast ligi viiekümne meetri kaugusel lehisel ja viimane siin kaamera ees männil.

GT
It is known that Ruudi has already built five nests, two of which have been in the poplar, one by one, one in the larch almost fifty meters from the current nest, and the last one here on a pine tree in front of the camera.

Ruudi is wearing a transmitter and a ring on his leg so that his movements have been well known since 2019. Throughout the seasons, Kanakull's area of operation has mostly been only within a radius of five kilometers, and on occasional occasions it has flown almost twice as far.
Kanakull on levinud kogu põhjapoolkera metsavööndi metsades ega ole olnud varem mingi linnalind. Eesti asurkonna suuruseks hinnatakse vaid pisut üle 400 paari.

Seni on kõikidel hommikutel (viiel hommikul) Ruudi jõudnud pesale mõned minutid enne seitset. Näis kas ka homme…
GT
The hen owl is widespread in the forests of the entire northern hemisphere and has never been a city bird. The size of the Estonian population is estimated at just over 400 pairs. We have a fixed bird, can live to be almost twenty years old.

In front of the camera, we now mostly see male birds picking up branch branches and placing them in the nest, from time to time they come and sit on the edge of the nest, splashing down. He has often sat right next to the camera and snapped right into the microphone. So far, every morning (five in the morning), Ruudi has reached the nest a few minutes before seven. Looked like tomorrow too…

I think that owl's nest is not meant. What do you all mean?

And so four young Goshawk were already ringed here last year?
Or owls?

@Hellem, right? :blush:

I thought so.
And I feel confirmed in my first feeling that this couple is already well-rehearsed.

Nice @Hellem that you can always be counted on so much. :innocent:

Well, I was expecting more work after the job. But Ruudi and Alla had a rather unspectacular day today.
But what is there to do...

The nest is complete, there doesn't appear to be any serious intruders on the turf... and it looks like there's good food to be had.
Actually almost perfect conditions.

I'm still running, just at 15:40. I suspect there won't be much activity today.

What else was:
13:56 Contact calls can be heard in the almost eerie silence.

14:06 The restlessness of the other birds in the area testifies to the presence of the couple ....or at least Ruudi or Alla.

14:15 Yes, Alla with a begging call.

14:24 A great tit hops through the nest.
At the same time, Alla can be heard again with her call
Image

15:09 A crow...very close

The stream starts to rattle.

He's running again now.

16:45 The stream ends

From the YT chat, Urmas Abel:

This nest is located in Tartu city, we put the transmitter on the male in 2019, their names are Ruudi (male) and Alla (female).... this is the first nest of goshawks in Tartu. For now, we have two more couples in town ... under the nest there are frames used to grow forest seedlings...

Liz, Polly  :2thumbsup:
Thanks Hellem.
Good to have Urmas Abel's information.
There will be a new topic for this nest, in the Looduskalender section.

HANSNATUURKANAAL Tawny owl deMortel/Netherlands

I have featured this stream in the Owls topic so far.
Now it seems jackdaws have taken over this owl box.

Who knows...maybe we can follow a rearing of young jackdaws? It would be a good opportunity. :shake:

However, the owls are still in the immediate vicinity.

March 13th

There were indeed owls visiting last night. First a visit, then handing over the booty.

Of course, the clutch of jackdaws was messed up. The jackdaws started over... In the afternoon the nest material was removed by the webcam owners.

Jackdaw in rebuilding box 1. Pigeon begins construction in box 2 after being chased out of box 1 by jackdaws. Both boxes are owl boxes (Tawny owl)

That's totally unacceptable for me.

I know you're not happy with how the season has gone so far. Instead of the desired owls, there are doves and jackdaws...in boxes 1 and 2.
But such an intervention... do you want to scare away the jackdaws or protect them?
I dont know.

Cuibul Acvilei de munte - The nest of the Golden Eagle Romania

Two eagles in the nest. This is a recorded video, the sound is very unsychronised.
First one appeares with a branch and then leaves. Later two com to the nest and they 'cuddle'. So I guess these are male and female.
