Another flounder delivery this morning as a cheeky magpie makes good its escape.
All the family were still with us last night, except Pedran who we last saw almost two weeks ago.
We can probably assume now that she has started her migration - or even ended it by this time. She turns 90 days old today.

P'nawn da,
Juvenile ospreys have a short window to learn some important life skills before heading off on their first migration.
The ability to defend a territory and their food from competing creatures could be the difference between surviving or not in the next few months. Luckily, it looks like these two aren't afraid to stand up for themselves.

Evening
Telyn is still here, helping Idris provide for their two remaining daughters.
So all the family here except Pedran who we last saw exactly two weeks ago.
Look out for a Science Sunday blog about Pedran on the weekend 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Not often we have two cameras fail on us in one season...
This time, unfortunately, it was down to Hooliganism.
If you have any details, please ring the Rural Crimestoppers Helpline.

Bore da,
Idris has brought in three fish so far this morning, all taken by middle daughter, Padarn. Her aim was a bit off with this delivery and Idris got a toe pulling!

Here's Padarn (the middle sister) taking in the last few rays of sunshine last night.
Today Padarn and Paith are 93 and 91 days old respectively. Both sisters are getting progressively more independent now and actively being aggressive towards each other. This is normal behaviour for this pre-migration stage, this is good.
We last saw the oldest sister, Pedran, 16 days ago when she was 77 days old.
We're not worried about her - we'll explain exactly why in tomorrow's Science Sunday post.
Spoiler - there's a plot twist...

We have some additional news about Hesgyn we can share with you. We now know that he was NOT shot.
Yesterday we spoke to the kind people at the Wildlife Incident Investigation Scheme (WIIS) and they have confirmed that there is no evidence of any shooting as the cause of death.
The WIIS team are still undergoing a barrage of tests and their work will not be finished for quite some time yet. We will write a blog about their findings once all their tests have been concluded later on this year.
A massive thanks to all the guys at WIIS.

From YouTube Blog

Sunday 28 August 2022 - Emyr MWT:
We last saw Pedran on 11th August when she was 77.7 days old. Has something happened to her?

Here is a short video of Pedran on that day, the last time we saw her:

Bore da,
Regular viewers of the Live Streaming may have noticed a distinct shift in behaviour between the two sisters in the last week.
As the end of the season approaches they increasingly view each other as the greatest threat to their food supply. We are seeing very little tolerance of each other around the nest with both birds chasing the other away.
It is important to remember this is all completely normal and does not have any detrimental effect on either sister.

P'nawn da,
On the last day of August we still have Idris and Padarn at the nest. We haven't seen Paith since Monday, or Telyn since last Thursday. How many more free flounders will Padarn get? Time is ticking.

P'nawn da,
As we reach the end of August, plenty of UK ospreys will now be on the move south for the winter.
Over the last few days we have had a number of 'intruders' over or around the nest, some coming in for a closer look. As you can see, they don't get a warm welcome from Padarn.

Lots of Intruders ~3-4 cruising above the Dyfi River, FB1 didn't caught a fish and returned to the nest, waiting for Idris' delivery > and there was fish:

Evening update
Idris enjoying supper with his middle daughter, Padarn.
No hats, but it looks increasingly likely now that Telyn and Paith have migrated. The oldest offspring, Pedran, was last seen three weeks ago exactly.

Padarn is still with us this morning; she becomes only the 10th offspring (out of 28) from this nest to stay until September. All have been girls except two: Dulas in 2011 and Ceulan in 2012.
It feels a lot cooler this morning, quite autumnal really.
Just for info: DOP/DWC changes to winter opening times from 11th September onwards, we will have been open for 180-days straight by then.
We then open every Wednesday - Sunday until Christmas, 10am - 4pm, leaving Mondays and Tuesdays free for us to do volunteer maintenance and conservation work.
