137.It´s a girl! Ireland, July 2014

According to wildlife photographer Nigel Beers Smith, the young bird in the nest at Mountshannon is a female. Allan Mee, project manager of the Irish WtE reintroduction programme, confirmed the information. The chick was fitted with coloured wing tags (bright purple and orange) by Mee and his team.

The Sunkar nursery, that has bred more than 1,000 birds, recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. According to the article, 632 of these birds “have been released into the wild and the genealogy of each pair of birds is carefully traced.”

146.White-tailed Eagles thriving in Finland. July 2014

About 40 years after less than ten pairs were counted during the 1970s in Finland, the White-tailed Eagle population is doing well and nests continue to appear in new areas. Today there are more than 400 breeding pairs in the country.

150.White-tailed Eagle sighting in the Dutch/German border region. July 2014

According to Ornithologist Bert Beekers, the bird is about two years old and ringed. The eagle was observed during the last month on a regular basis at the Millingerwaard Nature Reserve and in some areas nearby.
