Liz, thanx for video and comments
- yes, they vomit food under great tension (like people, especially children); when ringing it is almost the rule - "my" storks in Jögeva vomited and also the chicks in Łódź ...
- nick "Kotkaklubi" = Urmas?
- there are informations of successful attacks on also adult black storks by WTE, I saw also one video
(even in one novel from the Turkish environment it is written that migrating storks hordes of eagles used to wait on the coast, in very, very old times )
- probably several factors play a role, e.g. age, health status, etc. which decide on the outcome of such bird clash
prof. Piotr Zieliński commented the situation:
Oczywiście doświadczony bielik jest w stanie złapac nawet dorosłego bociana czarnego, ale zdarza się to bardzo rzadko, bo w pelni sprawny bocian nie da się zaskoczyć
Na bociany białe bielik też poluje. I na piskleta i na dorosłe (rzadko)
GT (few corrections)
Of course, an experienced white-tailed eagle is able to catch even an adult black stork, but it happens very rarely, because a fully functional stork cannot be surprised.
White-tailed storks also hunt white storks. For a chicks and for adults (rarely)

Solo, I didn't think enough yesterday when I wrote that! that is completely wrong!
The little ones offered their food so that the enemy gives up. that is the only reason
By the way, seagulls do the same when the white tailed eagles chase them in the air. The eagles don't want the seagulls, they want their fish. they will then vomit the fish in flight!
this time it was Urmas
They can only kill sick and weak black storks, if at all. No healthy adult black stork can be hunted by an eagle. Eagles don't hunt in the air! And the black stork is totally superior to the eagle in the air! they are much more agile. They are forest birds and are very good at maneuvering.Solo wrote: ↑August 2nd, 2021, 1:13 pm - there are informations of successful attacks on also adult black storks by WTE, I saw also one video

WTE also visited the nest of Zile&Ozols in 2015, Ozols flew away both times. In 2013 a young WTE visited the nest of Tiit&Tiina with two fledged storklets, both of then escaped. But in 2018 a WTE attacked the BS nest in Hungary with three little storklets and killed them all.

that was in 2016!
I haven't been observing long at this point in 2015!
And I avoided watching this event. I can only assume that at this stage of the brood, the clutch of Ozol was less important than its own life. but who knows .. I would have to watch the video from that time to judge something
