Good day! First photo taken on April 7. Here is the beginning of an interesting life in the new nest. I remember that we were worried about the fact that pine branch lies uncomfortable. The second picture is today, August 16. Here the nest as the airfield...from this site went to young life Snips, Snaps and Snurre. Happy journey!

Thanks, Gavril. All the branches and material Perkons and Lauma brought to the nest during the season are gone now. The man-made construction could be seen again. Bottom of the nest is a brownish mixture of dirt, fish rests, feathers, ... instead of fresh greenery of the pine.

What is the name of the bird?

I think it's a woodpecker of some sort, could be the European green woodpecker, or perhaps the grey-headed woodpecker. But I'm far from sure.

According to German Wikipedia I would say it's an young female grey-headed woodpecker (Grauspecht) because the European green woodpecker has a red spot, female and male, also youngsters.

Grauspechte sind auf der Oberseite ziemlich einheitlich matt olivgrün. Über den Nacken zum Kopf hin geht diese Färbung in ein helles Grau über, der Kopf wirkt hellgrau.

Die Geschlechter unterscheiden sich recht deutlich voneinander. Beim Weibchen fehlt die kleine rote Scheitelplatte des Männchens, meist ist bei ihnen diese Gefiederpartie etwas dunkler grau oder ganz leicht grau-schwarz gestreift. Auch die schwarzen Abzeichen (Zügel und Bartstreif) sind schmaler, kürzer und auch matter gefärbt. Insgesamt ist die Gefiederfärbung des Weibchens blasser und matter. In Größe und Gewicht unterscheiden sich die Geschlechter nicht.

Schon im Jugendgefieder besteht ein recht deutlicher Geschlechtsdimorphismus. Juvenile Männchen weisen bereits Andeutungen der roten Scheitelplatte und der schwarzen Gesichtsabzeichen auf, ihr Gefieder ist grünbräunlich und an der Unterseite undeutlich dunkel gebändert. Juvenile Weibchen dagegen sind ziemlich zeichnungslos matt grüngrau, sie gleichen weitgehend ausgefärbten Weibchen.
