Re: Latvian Osprey Nest ~ 2014 ~ Pērkons & Lauma
12:29 - an osprey flew past the nest. Seconds after a raven briefly landed on the nest before it took off again.
12:44 - raven on the camera support, and again an osprey flew by.
12:48 - again osprey flying by, and a raven heard from 'upstairs'

Good day! I watch the life in the nests of the osprey third season and each time migration catches me by surprise! Is sad....But I hope to see more Snaps, Snurre and Perkons with a big fish.Kukelke wrote: .....Anyway, time has come for us watchers to prepare to say farewell to this special osprey family and wish them all a safe journey to Africa, and a safe return next spring.
Godspeed to Perkons, Lauma, Snips, Snaps & Snurre.

8:57 - an adult osprey lands empty-taloned on the nest, looks like Perkons. He stays there for a few minutes, looks around, jumps from one side of the nest to the other, before leaving again towards the left at 9:00
He didn't bring any fish, nor did any of the osplets follow him to the nest, or could even be heard. No signs of the osplets at all... Chances are big they have all started their migration indeed, and that this was Perkons' last inspection round to be sure there's noone left screaming for fish.
This might very well be the last we've seen of Perkons (and his family) for this season, as there's no more reason for him to stay here any longer.

This osprey didn't look like Perkons to me. I think this was an osprey that was flying around when the kids were on the nest and they were protecting the nest against this one.Kukelke wrote:8:57 - an adult osprey lands empty-taloned on the nest, looks like Perkons. ...
I think all the family has gone by now.

Good day! I thought at 8:58 in the nest was Perkons. As Lauma before migration, glanced up at his house. I really love this touching couple. I hope that the migration will be a success and next year they will again grow in this nest beautiful Chicks!

Thankyou all for lately pictures and reports. So the ravens have 'taken over' the nest, they must get bored soon with the conquest as there is no more food to find ...
I wish happy migration for all of this special osprey family and hope to see them again sometimes - it has been a pleasure to get to know all these osprey individuals, each of whom have very special characters. Lauma and Pērkons did a fantastic job by raising their happy offspring this year.
So long, the raven couple, too!
Bye bye to all of you fellow chatters, too, on this thread, 'see' you next year hopefully at the same nest!

"Snips, snaps, snurre, bazilurre" - the nice story of this summer in Lauma's and Perkons' nest has come to the end in our webcams... but it goes on and on and on elsewhere... Successful hunting and travel to the South to Snips, Snaps and Snurre, and their beautiful parents Lauma and Perkons!
