Osprey Nests in Finland
Re: Osprey Nests in Finland
In Ilomantsi the osprets have been ringed today. The older one is female and named Kerttu, 1250 g, the younger is male and named Hannu, 1200 g. Kerttu has a red ring and Hannu green. The ringer left a fish as a comfort present, a salmon trout.
Manta didn't like the salmon trout but took it away (It weighed 1050 g - an average weight for an osprey's prey is 300 g! And was transported cool.)
Feeding in Paltamo
Tomorrow, Sunday the 18th July from 16:00 o'clock Finnish time (same as LK/Estonian time) the osprets will be ringed.

Luomus #1 - Satakunta osprey nest (Alma and Ossi)
After the deadly attack of a raven the two surviving osprets where brought to another nest.
Here you can read how the story ends:

Because it's written in Finnish here the translated text of the main content:

Many have asked how the two boys from Ossi and Alma who were moved to another nest after the unpleasant events of Midsummer's Eve, are doing. The chicks were ringed and examined during the transfer.
An inspector from the nest in question visited the site and found that one of the chicks had died. Surprisingly, the deceased chick was the one that survived the raven handling with seemingly the least injuries. At that stage, it was no longer possible to determine the cause or time of death. The surviving chick transferred from the Ossi nest has a yellow SRS ring, which was added when the breeding nest was ringed. On Thursday 22 July the SRS was photographed in flight near the nest, so from that point of view this story seems to have had a happy ending.

Where was the chick or chicks moved to? There was an attack on a Finnish Osprey nest last night or today by an Eagle Owl but the fledgling was able to get away and came back later. But the Owl also came back later, but before the fledgling did. The poster who is Finnish said the nest was Satakunta's nest #3 in Finland. Is there a thread for that because if so, I can't find it???
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

The event in that nest was discussed on the page 180 in Iris&Ivo thread. Myy returned to the nest after the owl took off and had breakfast: https://www.looduskalender.ee/forum/vie ... start=3580
There is a Forum in Finland where you can choose your reading language on the top of the page at the point "Valitse kieli" (Google translation with a Google icon):Chimega wrote: ↑August 1st, 2021, 3:22 am Where was the chick or chicks moved to?
