Falcons, Kestrels Around the World

Post by Felis silvestris »

A Kestrel Cam in Yizreel Valley in Israel.

The stream can viewed only with Internet Explorer (when asked "This webpage wants to run the following add-on: Windows Media Player Extension from Microsoft- click Allow.)

http://www.birdboxisrael.org/Jackdaw-Cam.html

From the webpage:
Background: This nest box was used the last three years by barn owls. Even though a lone male barn owl appeared in the box in 2014, it looked as though he did not have a mate. Jackdaws then built a nest during March and then left the box. Kestrels then occupied the nest box and laid eggs on the jackdaw nest.

It is an add-on to Internet Explorer, from Microsoft itself for the use of their player within the browser, which should not be a problem, but I know that many anti virus programs have problems with such things but let real threats pass without complaint. Go figure!

Peregrine Falcon hacking box in central Stockholm
http://embed.bambuser.com/channel/naturskyddsforeningen

One young brave male falcon is still there.
It's a long story but at first 4 young ones was set in the box, they were let out in early July but the gulls nesting on the same roof got so angry that the falcons didn't dare to fly, was decided to move them to a more peaceful place but the smallest one liked the freedom better and got away
He, now named as Folke, is flying around nearby and still gets fed with chicks in the box.
Someday ago the box door was accidentally shut by wind? and it was reported that he was walking around and gnawing on the metal fence trying to get in :headroll: seems OK now again

Breeded at Nordens Ark: http://www.nordensark.se/home-en-US/
More info (swedish): http://www.naturskyddsforeningen.se/pil ... n-tillbaka

(yes, date and clock on the cam is way off :whistling: )

Stockholms Ornitologiska Förening (StOF) have guided shows of the falcon each day 2-4 pm
About 1500 people, many of them children have stopped and read the big posters, talked or looked in the bird scoop set up.
He is doing well, flying with self confidence and play with annoying gulls

Second attempt to put out young Peregrines in Stockholm didn't work out well this year either.
06-25 three was set in a hacking box on the same building as last year and gulls were prevented to nest on the same roof.
07-03 box door opened and all flew out.
One was forced down by gulls and flew into a window and died, second one was mobbed by the gulls and flew away, third one is still there around the box. BLÄÄH...
