Fish Camera

Post by juta »

New project - an underwater camera watching fish in their natural habitat.
For salmonids this is now the time of the year they wander up rivers to spawn. We can observe them doing this through this camera.

The project was conceived as an idea 4 years ago and over the years the idea was accomplished with the help of many people. For the first time a video camera was used instead of a web camera. A GoPro Camera was rented (and in the course of testing also drowned as things happen to people who try).
The camera is housed inside an aquarium in a natural brook, which is about 15 cm deep. Like this we can watch the natural fish life as it happens.
For more details and all the people who have helped to make this happen, please read the Looduskalender article here: http://www.looduskalender.ee/en/node/21491 (in English)

Good morning, what a suprise. Fish camera sounds interesting. Right now we don't know more than what is explained in this article which Liis kindly translated quickly: http://www.looduskalender.ee/en/node/21491 otherwise we would only know that many people are involved. Juta was so kind to start a topic right away and I pushed it up a little now so it can be seen easier.
I already saw a couple of fish pass, but am not sure what kind I saw.

I opened it with this link for VLC

rtsp://193.40.133.138/live/kala

Perhaps it depends on ones settings of the program .... the VLC/Android link recommended in LK article didn´t work for me until now ...

it is getting used to that there is no sound.

If you have the seal cam open too, you get the sound of the waves on the beach, so that fits ... :rotf:
But I have been reading that fish do actually make a lot of noises, so I have looked and found this:

https://answers.yahoo.com/question/inde ... 752AAyqMB3
Yes lots of fish make noises ... The noises have been categorized as grunts, squeaks, knocks drumming, tapping, booming, croaking, growling, snorting ...
It would be really interesting to hear all that!

That will be one of the next steps, supplying underwater microphones :rotf:
