From LK main page:

...The webcam in the brown bear observation site will be working for one more week. From October feeding of animals is prohibited in Estonian forests, to limit the spread of the ASF disease...

The problem of extra feeding.
The disease spreads all over Estonia and the whole country is declared as a special zone: so it can turn out if nothing is done about the unrealistic demands on hunters that have been presented. Because how to comply with the obligation to hunt 29 000 boars in one season without winter feeding? Hoping at the same time that the boars will not move around more widely in search of food?
With rabies (http://www.looduskalender.ee/node/24960) in raccoon dogs and foxes, the situation in the forest is really serious :puzzled:

The article is still not translated, but as far as I understand the bad translation Google Translator gives, it is vaccination as precaution in order to avoid.

I have looked up a German information site which says:

In Ländern wie Polen, der Slowakei, Ungarn und Estland sind in den letzten Jahren nur noch sporadisch Einzelfälle von Tollwut gemeldet worden
In countries like Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Estonia only sporadic single cases of rabies were reported

The really grave problem is the African Swine Fever and I fear it will accompany us watching the cams for the next years!

You understand correct. In this article there is an information about overall process of vaccination, what to do when you find vaccine in forest, what to do when vaccine is broken and get on the hands etc. But there isn't said that rabies is problem in Estonia.

This means that killing 29000 pigs is no problem as long as it can be done at feeding places.
Imagine what we will see when the cam would stay on. A life massacre.

I wonder whether Looduskalender people have considered the alternative not to feed animals but to leave the cam online for some more weeks so that we can see the forest change as autumn gains ground and get a glimpse of birds,RDs from time to time. It would help to bridge the cap due to lesser number of cams and empty nests.

Thank you Looduskalender people for your efforts and work.
