If so, I wish all 4 a wonderful and safe flight !
Mikk and his daughters are still here. You look to the documentation topic! Maybe, Mai started her migration. The female adult osprey fly at first to the south.

Cam streamed today from 12:22 to 19:18

http://193.40.124.24/2015-kalakotkas-ft ... -19-18.jpg

That is about the time it streamed on 19. August, before the 2-day-break (12:15 - 19:20)

"Smells" very much like a battery-recharging failure .....

Pontu archives shows some pics (only empty nest) from yesterday, 23. August, cam worked only from 17:00 to 17:17

Looks very much like a low battery.

Carla was a little Napping, a little asked the fish and all of a sudden took away the fish from Cecilia! http://193.40.124.24/2015-kalakotkas-ft ... -17-36.jpg Cescilia attempted to take fish, but....no, Carla is not allowed... :D
Carla was simply so hungry that she had to steal the remaining fish from her sister - as no-one delivered one to her. Carla has become quite tough, a survivor, after that fight with her mother the other day?

Can nobody change this empty battery? But I know, the season is not more long. It is only so pity.

Probably it is not possible to drop everything else and hurry to nest site ..... and what´s more, the nest is not "on the way". It takes time to go there, find out whether it is the battery or something else, see whether a battery is in reserve or what has to be repaired, replaced, ordered, adjusted .....

Camera failures are reported, from previous cases we know that there will be help whenever it is possible.

Nothing else helps to stay patient and hopeful, despite it is frustrating, as we saw today what all is happening on the nest ...

I see Mai is still there. Good Mom. Thanks for documentations from today.

Ravens are my favourites. We have a few in the area. Sometimes in quiet big groups. Some of them in the backyard. They like grapes 8-)

As much as I still like to see Mai I just hope she wont be late. But I guess there is no worry. It will be the fourth time she is going to take this trip. May be she wants to go together with her girls.

Btw: It took Piret about 20 days to get to Egypt (17.08. - 07.09.) incl. several stops like Israel and Greece. Erika started migration already 13.08.
Tiiu took another route and started also at 17.08 and incl. a few stops she arrived in Italy on 07.09. one week later she was in Algeria and 26.09. she arrived at Cote d'lvoire at the boarder of Ghana where she stayed during the winter.

Cam was working longer than last pic in pontu. Let's be patient. Batteries have to be charged again by the sun. In Kalakotkas 2 it doesn't look like a sunny day. Weather forcast says rain and sunny parts today, Saturday cloudy and sun rain on Sunday.

I'm not sure, it was so fast. Was it another Osprey or Cecilia fooling around? Is the ring blue? Is there just one ring? Is it an adult or a youngster? Almost landed on Carla.

Has anyone (@Kukelke?) a theory why the female osprey leaves for migration first, before other family?

Just a few thoughts why Mai is still around:
- Her daughters don't know how to fish themselves yet and Mikk is not such a good provider. She could feel that her job is not over by now.
- She does not have the strength so far to leave. She looks somehow a bit thin to me.
- I guess on her first migration as a youngster she left like all the others in September and is the first time back in the hood. So she could leave later too like fathers and kids.

But I guess the specialists know better and - this might sound strange to you all - I wish Mai had a transmitter.

I was also thinking that Mikk's skills to hunt are weaker than Mai's - Mai maybe wants to ensure the nutrition for her first offspring and therefore stay longer.
I agree with you, Luz, that it would be interesting to know where Mai overwinters. - There were thousands of kilometres distance between Piret's (2012 start 17th Aug, South Sudan), Ilmar's (2012 start 16th Sep, Angola) and Tiiu's (2014 start 16th Aug, Ivory Coast) winter resorts - maybe the destination distance plays a role as far as the departure date is concerned ...?

Mai was not very eager to mate with Mikk in the early season - we hopefully shall see how the next season will figure out - between whom. Fingers crossed for that Mai will return here next season! :2thumbsup:
