What is going on in the Looduskalender forums

Post by Felis silvestris »

We had this topic already before. With time it became more a chat topic about "what is going on in our lives" - so here is a new place for news about the forums and what is connected with Looduskalender.

For a more general conversation have a look here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=98 or here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=521 or here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=24 or here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=216

We've done a bit of "autumn cleaning" in the forum. We found that we have to give the nest cameras of our Latvian friends more attention. They got a new forum.
As we have seen that there is need for a proper background for more serious discussions, we have changed the previous "Discussions about Nature" a little bit and created space for the more serious talking there.
This part of the forum has been turned into a "All about the forum" place. Here you find help, be it about the forum in general, be it about technical issues. A great thanks to Ame for her ingenious help topics! Here you also find news about the forum, or Looduskalender.

Anything missing or not working? Please let us know!

I know not exactly, if I here right. But I would only say, that we have now over 3000 members in looduskalender forum.
It's great, or? :headroll:

Hello :)
Is there any information about the activation of the Alutaguse bear webcam?

No, at present we have no information. We don't know if it is even possible at all with the arrival of AFS in Estonia and Alutaguse being one of the affected areas. The camera had in autumn to be closed early because of the prohibition of feeding during winter in Estonian woods.

I see. If there is some risk of spreading swine fever to wild boars, it's better to leave them alone.
Thank you juta :)

AFS has reached Estonian with quite disastrous outcome. Because of it wild boar was the animal of the year in Estonia in 2015. A bit of it can be followed here in our boar feeding place topic: viewtopic.php?p=421533#p421533 and onwards. The camera did not start last winter because feeding wild boar was prohibited and the sad story to tell is that the population of wild boar had to be decimated by the hunters in a large way.

The good news is, that Looduskalender announced that the bear camera in Alutaguse will start soon. http://www.looduskalender.ee/n/node/293
Some works with the camera equipment had to be done, but it will come soon.

Thank you very much Felis! I just finished reading the discussion you indicated and all the links it includes. Terrible. And still no vaccine at sight, despite extensive research.

Thank you, laranjeiras and Fleur! I always forget about that that eenet site. Didn't know this cam was in Estonia either.
So they moved the cam again?
