Harriet is injured by a owl attack

Last night a Great Horned Owl struck Harriet while she was preening on the attic & knocked her off the branch. She returned to the nest and we could see a small dark spot on the left side of her lower beak/gape area. In the morning, one of our wonderful local photographers Marti Lord went to the nest and took these photos of Harriet's injury. This injury is fortunately small and should heal without incidence. Eagles do sustain a number of injuries to their talons & beaks throughout their lives and are strong raptors. The old scratch to her beak from several years ago is fading away and getting smaller.
