Not ready for this view! Both eaglets continue to explore the nest tree; branching to various tree limbs. No fledge (or first flight) yet but could be any day! www.SWFLEagleCam.com

E21 fledged this morning! After an owl attack that left E21 on a lower nest tree branch, E21 soared the pasture skies, returning minutes later to the upper attic!

https://www.facebook.com/SouthwestFlori ... FcM2MzKjrlA very eventful 24 hours at the nest. E22 was hit by an owl in the early morning hours, falling to a lower branch tree. This morning, after being pestered by birds, E22 fledged to the front pine and then flew out of view.
During this sensitive time; please do not visit the nest area and stay off the driveway. Having so many people in the area can spook or deter the Eagles from their normal behaviors causing undue stress and harm.

So, both E's have fledged. M15 really is the father of the year, he raised two chicks alone!

This is indeed a great achievement by M15.
It was certainly very, very stressful and exhausting, but so well masterd. respect.
Good luck furthermore to this eagle family.

2018: Hamlet, bald eagle nest. A male eagle and two unhatched eggs. Result: the first egg hatched, the chick was abandoned and in no time taken away by an intruder, the second egg DNH.
2020. Golden eagle nest, Latvia. A single female eagle and the only one month old eaglet. Result: the eaglet died from hunger.
2021. Durbe WTE eagle nest. A single female and three unhatched eggs. Result: two eaglets hatched and soon died from cold and hunger, the third eaglet was killed yet in the egg.
Now I can say that after all those cases I was very pessimistic about this nest but did not want to write here about it. But miracles sometimes happen.
2023. SWFL eagle nest. A single male and two one month old eaglets. Result: both eaglets grew up and fledged.
Does it mean that at the age of 1 month the role of dad(who brings food and feeds them) is more important for the eaglets and only in this case they have a chance to survive?

The most reliable source to follow this nest is this official forum: https://forum.hancockwildlife.org/viewt ... 3b5bd1e97a
Forum Assistant Mary F is working for Southwest Florida Eagle Cam as administrator and aware of the ground situation daily.
Some times a week you can follow the online chatroll on the official cam page https://dickpritchettrealestate.com/sou ... eagle-cam/, also there the moderators work voluntarily for by the Pritchett family grounded Southwest Florida Eagle Cam.
The camera operators, Zoomies, work voluntarily, too. This year a couple of cams were lost in hurricane Ian and only two are working at the moment. - The nesting period had already began after the hurricane Ian and there was no intention to disturb the eagles with camera installation work.
Since Harriet disappeared M15 has done a splendid work by raising their two offspring on his own. Both eaglets have fledged, E21 was away for nearly 5 days but returned to the territory, where E22 now seems to claim rights to dominate in their territory. (As nestlings the situation was the opposite.) A spice in the eaglets' life is the existence of an owl family, GHO occupy the Nest 2 on the West pasture, built by Harriet and M15 as a reserve nest. GHO have three juvies, who visited the eagle nest yesterday night in front of the cams. Both eaglets fledged as result of owls knocking off them from the attic down in the nest tree - they fledged from the very same branch within a couple of days.
The juvies E21 and E22 are thriving, enjoying the pasture, the pond and the nest tree. The pesky shrikes seem to have calmed down and don't bother them as much as the days before. Tonight E21 was roosting on the attic and no GHO came to disturb.
There are several ground crew photographers, who were "the eyes" when the cams were out of function after the hurricane. They also witness with their developed equipment lots of playing and other situations on the pasture that the nest cameras don't see. They have their Facebook accounts anyone can follow. The most frequent ones:

Alligators, especially the smaller ones are common all over in that part of Florida, they can promenade also to the Pritchett's pasture.
Hope that E22 doesn't try to catch them in the pond.

The new season with cams will open 1st Oct 2023. So far the ground crew has followed M15 with a female known since middle of March 2023. Harriet was last seen 2nd February 2023, since then several females have been seen around, but this one seems to have approved the nest and M15. Both have been noticed to do nest work and at least one food gift is witnessed to have been delivered by M15 to the female.

The new mate of M15 (= Male 2015) is now officially called F23 (= Female 2023).
They have been seen bonding and building the nest together so we can expect offspring this season, too.

According to suggestion of forum member Pennies the name of this topic was changed from 'Harriet & M15, American Bald Eagle Cam' to
'Southwest Florida Eagle Cam'
The thought behind was, that the nest could/should be represented in a more neutral way, independent from changing nest owners.
I think it is a good idea and followed this suggestion.
