Estonian Osprey Nest Mai & Mati ~DOCUMENTATION 2016
It is the fifth year now that we can observe all what happens on this nest.
Inhabitants of this nest in 2015 were Mai (ringed, 29, on left ankle, metal ring on right ankle) and Mikk (unringed), they were supposed to be first-time-breeders then.
Mai was ringed by Joosep Tuvi in 2012, in a nest 70 km northwards (Emajõe-Suursoo) in a clutch of three Osprets.
Three eggs were laid, two eggs hatched and two osprets with rings CA (Carla) and CC (Cecilia) fledged.
Nest is located in South Estonia, Võrumaa
A fish farm, as well as a river, is not far, so good hunting conditions for Ospreys.
Ospreys reach body heights of 50-66 cm, and wingspans of 1,27 - 1,74 m. Females are bigger than males.
- Winglength ♂ 448 bis 495 mm ♀ 470 bis 518 mm
- Weight ♂ 1,12 bis 1,74 kg ♀ 1,21 bis 2,05 kg
Usually two or three eggs are laid and incubated 36-41 days.
Young Ospreys fledge after 50-54 days.

A Buzzard is inspecting the nest
A returning-home migrant or stay-at-home one? He will not tell us - unfortunately
No rings
It left at 13:55 - short before taking off it was observing and focussing something in the ground --- maybe there was a mouse to catch?

Osprey alarm! A female I suppose - wearing a red ring with white numbers 766, Latvian(?) on left ankle, metal ring right ankle
She left at 14:28. Her crop looked a bit empty, maybe she will go fishing ....
She came in at 14:18
First short touch-down at 14:18
Longer stay from 14:20 on
