All three of the 2022 Glaslyn chicks have now taken to the skies. At 52 days old, Blue 499 left the nest for the first time at 12.23 this afternoon and made a perfect landing on the nest.

We were saddened at Glaslyn Ospreys this week about the death of the 2019 Dyfi chick KA3/Hesgyn.
A member of the public contacted us on Monday afternoon to report that the remains of an osprey had been found on Criccieth beach. Consequently, he brought it to the Pont Croesor Visitor Centre and we alerted North Wales Police Rural Crime Team. The ring number confirmed that it was KA3/Hesgyn, and we contacted the Dyfi Osprey Project with the sad news. He had been a regular intruder on the Glaslyn nest last year and had been seen locally during this season.
His remains were transferred on Tuesday to North Wales Police Rural Crime Team for further investigation.
Our thoughts are with the Dyfi Osprey Project at this time. Here is Hesgyn pictured on the Glaslyn nest during one of his visits here last year.

Yesterday afternoon Mrs G caught her first fish since April 4th. She shared the fish with the chicks, although she appeared to prefer the
Brown Trout that Aran delivered to the nest a short while later.

The eldest chick on the Pont Croesor (Friends of the Ospreys) nest fledged on Friday 29th July at 53 days old. She had helicoptered to the perch at 13.51 and remained there throughout the afternoon, before taking her first flight at 18.16.
From our daily observations of the development of the chicks, it is likely that it was the first and third eggs that hatched, so the
youngest chick is possibly four to six days younger than the oldest one. Therefore, there might be a couple more days of helicoptering before we see her join her older sister in the sky above Pont Croesor.

Congratulations Grandad Aran!
Wonderful news! We are delighted to be able to announce that another Glaslyn hatched osprey has successfully raised chicks for the first time.
Blue KS1 was the middle of the 2018 brood, and is nesting at the Bolton Estate in North Yorkshire with her un-ringed mate. They have successfully raised a male and female chick together. We are especially thrilled because this is the first of Aran's offspring known to be breeding.
Congratulations to everyone involved with the first osprey nest in Yorkshire in modern times.

The youngest of the two chicks on the Friends of the Ospreys Pont Croesor nest fledged on Wednesday 3rd of August at 09.58. Just in time for our volunteers to witness her first flight from our hide.
We also managed to capture the moment on our Pont Croesor camera.

Intruders are a bit like buses, none come close enough to identify for weeks and then three land in one day!
Here is KA5/"Roli" hatched at Llyn Brenig 2019. He has been seen at
Glaslyn a few times over the past two years and is getting more like his mother, Blue 24, as he matures.

It has been a while since we have been able to identify any of the
intruder ospreys that have visited the Glaslyn nest, mainly because Mrs G and Aran have been doing a great job at defending the nest and they have not passed close enough to the cameras to see any rings.
With the Glaslyn family spending longer periods away from the nest during August, it is often a good month for being able to identify intruding ospreys. Early this morning not one, but two male ospreys landed very briefly on the Glaslyn nest. KA7 (2019) was being chased by KS7 (2018), they are full brothers hatched on the Clywedog Osprey nest in mid Wales and we saw both at Glaslyn last season.

Mrs G was spotted fishing on the estuary near Porthmadog on Tuesday evening by Chris Wood. Chris saw her with a large flounder around 19.25 and she arrived back at the nest site with it at 19.46. Thanks for sharing your images with us Chris.

There was an intruder with a Glaslyn connection on the Llyn Clywedog osprey nest on Tuesday evening. A young male osprey hatched this year, most likely making his first migration south.
Blue 6C3 is from Roudsea Wood, in Cumbria, his father is Glaslyn born White YC (2008) He has two siblings, 6C1 a female and 6C2 a male. Thanks to John Williams for notifying us of the sighting. Photo courtesy of Natural Resources Wales.

Fish for 499, later 499 had enough and shared the huge flounder with sibling 498. I love this Glaslyn family. Mrs.G is an absolutely amazing female osprey and Aran a very good provider and partner.

On the last day of August all five of the Glaslyn Osprey family are still with us. Glaslyn born chicks tend to migrate later than most ospreys, with an average migration age of 103.5 days. Mrs G generally leaves during the first few days of September, so perhaps this is a factor in them staying longer?
Today the three chicks are 97, 96 and 93 days old, so we are making the most of watching our beautiful ospreys while we still can.
