Aran has been taking every opportunity he can to feed the chicks this week. Notice how Elen also tries to take a piece of fish from his beak, with both parents attempting to feed at the same time on some occasions. Teamwork makes the dreamwork!

The sunny weather has turned today, but Elen is already on the case protecting her growing chicks from the rain.

The chicks are now 14 and 15 days old and have lost their down. Soon we will see their pin feathers grow and they will develop into young ospreys. Yesterday, on a few occasions, we saw the eldest chick attempt to take small pieces of fish for itself. It is unusual to see such a young osprey attempt to feed itself, and we certainly haven't seen this before on the Glaslyn nest.

At 23 and 22 days old, the chicks are now clumsily moving around the nest, in between lots of eating and sleeping. Their pin feathers are starting to come through too and soon enough we will have two young ospreys on the nest.

The Glaslyn 2023 chicks have been ringed and it looks as though 0H1 and 0H2 are both male.
The ringing video will be on the way soon...

0H1 takes flight!
The eldest chick, 0H1, has fledged at 14:33 today. He kept everyone on their toes as he made a very short flight from the nest to the tree branches on the left, where he stayed for a while before making it onto the side perch and venturing to the sky once more, completing a successful flight around the nest area. We will share a video of the exciting moment tomorrow.

Here is the video of 0H1 fledging yesterday. Will 0H2 follow his big brother and take to the sky today?

And off he goes! Youngest chick, 0H2 has fledged at 06:51 this morning at 52 days old. He made a short, confident flight around the nest area, landing next to mum, Elen who was tucking into breakfast.

It looks as though 0H2 has been practicing his fishing! We haven't seen a chick dive into water at Glaslyn before, but this pool that had developed in the field beneath the nest was perfect for the youngest chick to rehearse his diving skills. His effort was rewarded with a fish when he landed back on the nest.

Elen's first fish!
Elen delivered her first fish to the nest on Sunday night, this is the first time we have seen her with a fish she has caught herself. It is clear that she is unimpressed with the numerous amount of flounder Aran has been catching recently.

The female from the Friends of the Ospreys nest at Pont Croesor, Blue 014, paid a flying visit to the Glaslyn nest this morning. She obviously thought a free fish was too good an opportunity to miss.

Exciting news! We have been informed that Blue W0 (Ŵ bach), hatched on the Glaslyn nest in 2015, was seen at Threave Castle on 13 August. He was also seen at the same location in 2019.
Many thanks to Ken White for the photo.

All four of the Glaslyn Osprey family are still with us and Aran is working as hard as ever to provide enough fish for his family before migration. He did have some trouble trying to land with yesterday's garfish though!

Two for the price of one! Elen couldn't believe her luck when Aran landed with a choice of two mackerel. She wasn't in the mood for sharing either...

We have reached 1st September and Aran and both chicks are still with us. Aran delivered a large flounder to the nest at lunchtime today and 0H1 and 0H2 took their turn to eat and shout alternately.

The nest is much quieter these days, though at least one chick has been seen on the perch early this morning. This means other birds, like this beautiful Sparrowhawk can take advantage of the empty perch, and treat the viewers of the livestream while we wait for the remaining Glaslyn family members to make an appearance.
