Estonian Osprey Nest ~Irma & Ivo~ DOCUMENTATION 2016

Post by Bea »

It is the fourth camera-season for this nest.

Resident ospreys in 2015 were

Joosep, the male, wears ring with letter/number J3

and

Irma, the female, has ring with letter/number U5

Both have metal rings on their right ankles, but designations are not readable in cam view

Image

After there was no more sign of Ilmar, the established male of seasons 2013 and 2014, Joosep became the new mate from Irma in 2015.
Three chicks were raised, Niina (NN), Thor (NT) and Yolanda (NY).

Ospreys reach body heights of 50-66 cm, and wingspans of 1,27 - 1,74 m. Females are bigger than males.

- Winglength ♂ 448 bis 495 mm ♀ 470 bis 518 mm
- Weight ♂ 1,12 bis 1,74 kg ♀ 1,21 bis 2,05 kg

Usually two or three eggs are laid and incubated 36-41 days.
Young Ospreys fledge after 50-54 days.

Nest is located in South Estonia, not far from a fish farm. Natural river and ponds are in vicinity, too.

This topic is for documentation of what we see on the nest.
1) Something that you saw yourself on the cam

Somebody was sitting on the dead tree

Image

Unfortunately too small and far away to clearly see who.

I suppose we missed not much today, with much rain and strong wind not the perfect migration day ....

The sky is dark blue, but no rain or heavy wind. Could it be a good migration day? :shake:

It landed in at 15:08 and took off again at 15:30 .... wing flaps and the way it lands and takes off look not like an Osprey .... I´d call it a Wood Pigeon, too
