Estonian Osprey Nest (Irma & Ivo) 2017
We are looking forward to the fifth season of nestcam observations at this place!
Introduction on LK main page in English: http://www.looduskalender.ee/n/en/node/1230
Nest is located in South Estonia, Tartumaa, not far from a fish farm. Natural river and ponds are in vicinity, too.
Resident couple in 2016 were Irma (U5) and Ivo (ED).
Three eggs were laid, but one got lost when Irma took off from the nest and the egg was still stuck in her chest feathers, it fell into the nest rim.
Two remaining eggs hatched, but the smaller chick was blown off from the nest in a storm, one week after it had hatched.
So only one ospret was raised, it got the name Ivar (RR).
Irma, the constant of this nest, in the morning sun of 29. April 2016
Ospreys reach body heights of 50-66 cm, and wingspans of 1,27 - 1,74 m. Females are bigger than males.
- Winglength ♂ 448 bis 495 mm ♀ 470 bis 518 mm
- Weight ♂ 1,12 bis 1,74 kg ♀ 1,21 bis 2,05 kg
Usually two or three eggs are laid and incubated 36-41 days.
Young Ospreys fledge after 50-54 days.

Let the season begin

There were still human voices around, so our Eagle men brought up the connection quite "fresh"
Thank you!

Yay!!! Hello everyone!
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Nope, no news about it yet, but I suppose that the cams showing nests of our migrating birds will go online now soon, one after the other ...yitmoth wrote:Great! Is there any news about the other cam, i.e. Mai & Mati?

Oh, I feel so sorry for you, but she had most likely a beautiful life and 20 years for a cat is a long life, but is ever very, very sad to lose a pet.Eifalia wrote: I need this hopeful waiting for our Ospreys much more know, because my 20 years old cat died yesterday evening.

Oh, the Eagle men already prepared the nest with some nest materials, that's great. Irma and Ivo would be happy about this.

In France, in the Loire area, the first birds begin to arrive these days, today three were seen in the nest ... So our osprey, I hope and cross my fingers, is also somewhere close!
