Good day! Thank you very much for the updates and pictures! Very pleased with the the emergence of another (fourth!) eggs. There is hope, that couple would raise three Chicks. Looks like Tija loved to relax on the pine.

Not very good news from Dabasdati.lv forum:

Good afternoon.
I contacted Janis Ķ. The forecast is uncomfortable, it's likely that the fault is in the camera, but during the nesting for its replacement ....! The only hope if it's resuming to work."

Does this mean that if the camera needs maintenance, then this will not happen while the birds are nesting??
Understandable... but devastating

The storm was so terrible ... .
May 1st. 00:36:56. A flash of lightning illuminates the sky like a sunny day.
Poor Tija. I hope she, Teo and the eggs are ok.
Now, we can only wait and wish the best to the family

Peixatera, thank you for the information..
Jojo, it would be a risk:
"1.80 Müller, T., Langgemach, T., Sulzberg, K. & Köhler, D. (2005)
The use of agricultural machinery near the Horst is largely tolerated. In general, unknown or changing disturbances are more dangerous than permanent sources of interference. So even military exercise operation can lead to the attraction getting used to. The sensitivity of the osprey on the eyrie is individually very different. Young, poorly synchronized breeding pairs are generally more sensitive than old, experienced couples. Ospreys breeding on lattice towers are more susceptible to disturbance than tree breeders in remote forests. Here, single disturbances can lead to brood losses or even to the hatchery task."

I'll presume we don't have an experienced couple...

In case the problem is too near to the nest (camera, cable, plugs - all this might have gotten damaged during the thunderstorm) the risk to go there and disturb the birds during incubating is very (too) high in this stage of nesting. When parent birds fly off and stay away too long from the nest, the eggs could become too cold and embryos can´t develop any more.
I´d say in this stage of nesting it is irrelevant, whether the osprey couple is experienced or not ... human intervention with coming too close is too risky in any case.
viewtopic.php?p=580753#p580753
Next occasion to go to the nest so close is the day when osprets get their rings, then they are big and old enough to withstand an also longer absence from parent birds.
In case the defective part is further away (solar panel, battery) it might be possible to have a look, but I don´t know how near or far this part of the system is away from the nest ...
I am sure Janis Kuze, Aigars Kalvans and all responsibles will thoroughly balance pros and cons in this situation.
But hope dies last and maybe we are lucky and the cam will start working again - by its own will
