Waba decided to fly a bit North along the Nile
Image

First Waba was active again between Barbar and Yunus, then crossed the Nile and now her/his last shown location is near Albawga
Image

Is this a plantation of date palms? :puzzled:
Image

At this last location point at/over the plantation Waba was still in flight with 39 km/h in an altitude of 651 meters.

Hi Bea and all others :hi:,

restless Waba finally seems to have found his / her favorite spot for the winter. And s/he makes sure that we don't have to spend all this time without any storky news.

Meanwhile, the days are already getting noticeably longer, and the countdown to hopefully many reappearances is already in full swing.

Have a nice weekend!

Hello everyone :hi:

Juhuuuuu - we got some more data from our Udu :loveshower:

UDU

▶︎ TRACKER MAP
UDU 04./05./06./08.01.2023

https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid= ... sp=sharing

Distance: 1,57 km (incomplete data)
Battery: 0%

Here is the link to Udu's last tracker map from Anne, with more details about the area (also see Anne´s earlier posts)
viewtopic.php?p=885023#p885023

So Udu is with this new data batch still shown in Turkey, same area like the data batch before showed us
Image

Udu south of Kumkale
Image

Last data point shows Udu at Gümrekdere Kurutma Kanali, foraging in this channel between the fields (Afiyet olsun, Udu!)
Image

It is so good to get a sign of life every now and then, isn´t it?

WABA

▶︎ TRACKER MAP
WABA 16.01.-17.01.2023
From 16.01._11:09 until 17.01._11:10

https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid= ... sp=sharing

Battery: 100%
Distance: 9,53 km

Waba stayed at his favourite places of the last days at the Sudanese Nile, between Yunus and Barbar,
but today also started moving southward along the western side of the Nile.
A place called 'Sudan wings' s is shown in the map ahead of Waba´s last data point, maybe this is a small landing strip in the sand for smaller airplanes :puzzled:
Image

At the last data point Waba flies with 49 km/h in an altitude of 713 meters

I am curious where we will see Waba tomorrow

Hello everybody!

Today we have no news from little Waba. Probably s/he is "on the road" and travelling around.

Hello everybody! :hi:

WABA

▶︎ TRACKER MAP
WABA 19.01.23
17.1. 11:09 - 19.1. 11:10

Battery: 100%
Distance shown: 396 km

https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid= ... sp=sharing

Today we received location data via SMS.

Little Waba is always good for surprises! S/he is on the move along the Atbara River and has covered over 396 km in two days..

SInce the data came with SMS they are less and not as detailed as usual. We therefore do not see the current speed or flight altitude and only a few location points. therefore, we also do not see the current flight path. But we see that Waba is east of Khartum in the middle beween Khartum and Eritrea. The last point shows him over New Halfa.

Not far away in the south is the Dinder National Park, a good place for birds.

Agriculture on the Arbara River near the confluence of the Atbara with the Nile.

Waba's overnight campsite from 1/18-19/23

The moisture index shows that the Atbara River at Waba's overnight site has many dry spots and does not carry very much water.

WABA

▶︎ TRACKER MAP
WABA 19.01.-21.01.2023
From 19.01._11:10 until 21.01._11:10

https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid= ... sp=sharing

Battery: 100%
Distance: 401 km

Waba surprises and delights us with a two-day-data transmission and we can see that s/he made a three-country trip in these two days
Sudan - Eritrea - Ethiopia
Image

Start was in Sudan, north of Degheim and when the trip was over we see Waba back in the fields between river Atbara and New Halfa
Image

Waba came from Sudan, crossed a 'corner' of Eritrea and checked border-river Setit also on Ethopian side for good hunting grounds
Image

But it looks like the area around New Halfa and along river Atbara in Sudan has more advantages than the new explored fields

Hi Bea, juta, sova and all others :hi:,

we are really lucky. To be honest, I had expected Waba to vanish from our view now, but here s/he is.

I hope s/he won't feel the urge to fly further long distances for the moment, another rest would be well-deserved.
