It´s back winter-like weather in Estonia, maybe somebody texed that to him.
Juta, you are right - Karl II knows about the weather. I have thought so often in the past. Is it because we think about him, many of us, and he has a way to know what is happening at the nest? Is he psychic?(!!) well, why not? :whistling:
Winter here, too. We have snow about four times today.

I'm not sure if there is a mobile connection available. At the beginning of the invasion, there were reports that the digital radios of the russian army relied on the mobile phone network, so access was disabled for foreign sim cards. The transmitter may not be able to make a connection and i wouldn't count on connectivity in Belarus.

As shown on this map, there is a passing cloud of Sahara dust, which might disrupt connectivity. The formation of the last large dust cloud in early March which later spread over western Europe may also have been the reason for the lack of data transmission in that period.

Thank you for that, L-H. As you see, we did have some data, delayed and looking rather different from usual.
The accelerometer values are not as usual. I have asked Urmas to comment.

As for that Sahara dust I still haven't washed it all away, yet!

Hello everyone

Thank you very much for all information!

Herewith a comparison of Karl II's spring migration over Ukraine in 2021 and NOW.
Theoretically, Karl II could now reach Belarus in one day flight

Image

Karl II's last known location is in a forested area near Yurivka, on the Verbka River
Yurivka is a village in the Zhytomyr Oblast in Ukraine. It has about 1,290 residents. Yurivka is situated nearby to Novyi Liubar, and east of Hromada.

It is noteworthy that the last received data were sent by SMS, and are therefore incomplete and less detailed.
(SMS merely transmits the date and time at some location points, and maybe the battery status. No speed, no altitude, no temperatures and no correct accelerometer data.)

TRACKER MAP
KARL II_April 02

Also these data were sent by SMS.

Distance flown today: 17.1 km
Battery: 47%
It looks like the weather isn't very nice.

Karl II is still in the same (wider) area.
He moved a little bit west.

Karl II is currently slightly south of Velyki Derevychi, a village in Liubar Raion, Zhytomyr Oblast, Ukraine. Hopefully it is a safe area.

Yes, Sova :hi:
That's very likely. The weather wasn't good in Karl II's area.
It was cold and cloudy, and the wind came from the northwest

Image

Today, Karl II flew again a little bit west, from Velyki Derevychi in the Zhytomyr Oblast, to Onats'kivtsi in the Khmelnytskyi Oblast

Hello!
Many thanks for the info, Anne, Juta and Jo!
I am very thankful.

The weather in Estonia is extremely cool, there is still snow and ice, it's been winter all week.

Image

Karl II and friends would not find much food in Estonia at the moment.
I hope he stays south, but certainly not in a dangerous area!
Do not stay in Ukraine!

So much to worry about!
I keep my fingers crossed.

Hello everyone :hi:

Winnipeg hawk and Heloise

Heloise, thank you for the Estonian weather information. Yes, that's still very cold! :faint:

I took a quick look at meteoblue for the weather in Karl II's last known area in Ukraine.
(I chose the weather in Polonne, Khmel'nyts'ka oblast, about 20 km north of his last known location.)

It is also cold there, but today no precipitation, and westerly winds.
Theoretically, Karl II could move northward today.
We will see tonight (if we receive data) what he has decided.

Image

Fingers crossed! For all BS.

Heloise, thak you for that information. Does that explain why Karl II keeps returning to the south? He is waiting for better conditions at "home". I suppose there is Summer Home and Winter Home for migrating birds.

Karl flies to the North as soon as the wind is from the South(in day time) even if the weather is cold. Half frozen frogs are not that bad food and it easy to catch them.
