Re: Following Karls' Families

Post by Francesca_V »

Hi Hulbi,
I don't know what happened but it looks as if a little later ornitrack received the complete set of the daily data package: Ornitrack showed that a data package was available at about 11:12 which I downloaded. But this package was not complete, and the complete data has been sent at 11:13.

Im going to update the posting from today.

Thanks a lot, Francesca! I'm still getting a little panicky whenever something unusual happens data-wise.

Those fields really seem to be a surprisingly good spot for a stork. :2thumbsup:

Hulbi,
I understand - I am also very puzzled when something is not as usual.
I was a little reassured when I saw that a GSM data point of 11:10 was also sent. So I thought there must have been a technical "thing".

And yes, these fields make our little Waba happy.

I am curious to know if Waba is there alone or if he has a companion.

In Israel, for example, in the Jordan Valley Center, there are plenty of black storks:

I wonder if that’s where Bonus ended up after we lost contact with him?

Ah ... It looks like Waba is getting restless. I wonder if he'll be heading north soon?

Hi Bea, Francesca and all others!

Francesca, I thought the same, but maybe Waba has just eaten up everything those fields held ready.

But we will all have to steel our nerves, exciting but also stressful weeks are surely ahead of us.

Sure, Hulbi, that is very possible.
We will see.

PS in another place I watch peregrine falcons that are about to lay their eggs.
At the time the peregrine falcons will have raised their chicks , it will getting exciting with the black storks. probably.

Hello everyone :hi:

I suppose we could see and read about movements back north from our adult BS (Karl and Kaia) earlier than from the youngsters (Waba and Bonus) :puzzled:

When I remember right (?!) adults start migration home north earlier than first time migrating youngsters, who will move somehow north, but stay in their first year 'somewhere' south and not return home to their northern hatching areas. Like Udu staying in Italy.

But please correct me, when I am wrong in my expectations Image

So or so time and our Black Storks will tell us the facts

Waba did not move much, searched for food along a small water channel and it looks like s/he found a spot in a field with a lot of goodies within a small range (moved all in all only 4.2 km during this data session)

Hi Bea, juta and all others ,

maybe a final silent weekend... Let's hope that Waba will soon be visible to us again, and I guess it's at least possible that we could get our first signals from Karl II oder Kaia any time now... (It would also be great to hear from Udu again...) May they all be well!

Have a nice weekend everyone!
