6:42 Kalju is calling outside, Female replies.
As far as I know, they don't take turns when brooding. Only the female broods.

Hellem wrote: March 12th, 2020, 12:48 am Jo  , I think the new topic is not necessary, maybe to change only the name of this topic 2019-2020. There are only 4,5 pages in the beginning about the previous 2019 year nest, all the other pages are from 2020 already. This nest is located also in Soomaa, the same area as the previous nest. Urmas wrote in 04.03.2019: Gunnar found also new nest. There was adult incubating, so observed only from distance. It is about 1km away.

What is your and the other members opinion?

Golden eagle in Estonian is Kaljukotkas - Rock Eagle, the name Kalju (rock) is very suitable for the male :D
This is not the same pair of eagles as previous two years. We have more than one GE pair nesting in Soomaa area.

Background of 2020 nest and eagles https://www.kotkas.ee/uudised/kaljukotk ... amera-2020. Sorry, in Estonian only, at the moment.

It seemed to me that an eagle flew with a ring (although this ring is poorly visible, only the mount is visible). And someone wrote here that only a female incubates ... But, it is quite possible that I am wrong!

I wrote it, I read it. And I'm sure, Kalju is in the nest.

new info:

Females do a majority of, but not all, of the incubating and largely attain their own food up to the stage of egg-laying, after which they are typically fed by the male. The female may continue to grab most of their own food in areas where carrion is easily accessible.[54] If made to forage excessively during the incubation stage by a non-attentive mate, the female may abandon the nesting attempt.[60] In Idaho, the female did 84% of the incubation during the day, with the male doing about 16%.[60] At night, the female generally appears to do all of the incubating.[61] In Japan, the female did 90% of the observed incubating........

you can see the different beak shape/ and right now our Kalju is in the nest /his eyes are brighter than the eyes from the female

Estonian name for Golden eagle has its origin in German as we don't have rocky mountains here. The other names for GE in Estonian are "maakotkas" (meaning "land-eagle") and "laanekotkas" (meaning "forest-eagle"). Both of these are opposites for White-tailed eagle's name in Estonian "merikotkas" that means "sea-eagle".

8:30 they call to each other

Triin, thanks a lot for the info about the name of the different eagles.

our golden eagles were hunted until they sought refuge in the mountains. Previously they lived everywhere in Germany.
