Hi Osprey friends,
I know it's too early to expect our Ospreys to return. But after the weather comes up with warm temperatures this year, it may not be too long and I hope to see Ivo or Iiris returning to their nest soon. I cross my fingers that both of them and all the other Ospreys fly home safely.

Jenny, I've missed you already. :hi:

It's not too soon. Actually, our impatience lasts for five months or more.

There's no sign on the bird migration map that says our Ospreys are in a hurry. I look at least twice a day.
And I once read that it is not the temperature that matters, but the length of the day. So it won't make much difference. I can't say for sure if that's right.

Ivo seemed a bit exhausted last year. I am especially worried about him.
But I am looking forward to the big moment when Bea opens the subject and the cameras are running! :loveshower: It's almost as if our birds are at home.

May they travel safely.

Thank you Polly for your answer.
Now we hope that Ivo will come back healthy and maybe Iiris too. They were a good team and they prepared their youngsters well for this uncertain world.
Looking forward to the livecam being turned on again.

Hello all birdfriends!

Another anxious waiter here :D

I am also consulting birdmap ee daily, still no Osprey appear. Is it too early still ? Or are they not to be included in the map this year?

It will still take some time before the cameras go online. Usually the new season was opened from the end of March until the beginning/middle of April.

Our Ospreys are still in their wintering areas. Solo has posted about this.
@Solo
Thank you for your great work on the migration topic!
:2thumbsup:

I also expected that one or the other is already on his way north but no. Our birds are in no hurry.
It's just as well. Let them set their own pace.

Is there perhaps any news about when the cams would go online? ...

This weekend and next week the weather will be very nice and sunny in Latvia and also Estonia. Certainly, there will be many visitors on the nest!

A quote from the Danish WTE-cam chat https://www.dof.dk/oplev-fuglene/ornetv (Google Translation, some adjustments by me):
Ospreys in Nordsjælland
Posted by Ole Friis Larsen on March 26, 2020 at 08:51
It may not be seen on the nest, but pictures have been taken of an osprey near the nest in Nordsjælland a few days ago - March 25 as far as I remember. There have also been pictures from England where two ospreys have appeared by their nests, so the first ones have started to arrive from Africa.

In Denmark we had six breeding pairs of ospreys last year. They got 10 kids together to fly. It was the largest number so far for the still very small stock of ospreys in Denmark.

Most ospreys, which are seen in Denmark, are birds that migrate to and from their nests in Norway, Sweden and Finland.

The webcam in Gribskov is operated by the Danish Nature Agency. Here is a link: https://stream.webstream.dk/naturstyrelsen/

Hello osprey fans :hi:

We got some news!

The plan for this season is to get both of our well known Estonian osprey nest cams back to streaming :loveshower:

Ospreys seem to return a bit earlier this year to their nesting places.

Urmas writes, that he will try to install at least one of the cams this weekend, but no guarantee for this (and he did not write which one of the nests ... )
Estiona has, like many other countries too, restrictions for social contacts among people. One of them is, that not more than 2 persons are allowed to gather. And in this current special situation it is not always easy to find helpers for tasks like this.

So, let´s practice this ugly "p-word"* a little bit longer, but now with an outlook and in anticipation :shake:

Stay tuned, osprey fans!

*patience .... :faint:
