April 24th

Hello together :hi:

Does it look like Teo will remain without a partner this season?
Even if it's a speculative thought on my part - it won't let go of me.
If Vita was the other female involved, she quickly gave up and was driven away.

Unfortunately none of the other two females were not interested in breeding here.
Teo continues to visit the nest, occasionally throwing up existing nest material and digging... but the nest shows the progression of the season very clearly. No real restoration.

Hoping for a happy coincidence for a few more days... :innocent:

Frankly, those females may be smart, intuitively, given the outcome of the previous two seasons.

The faithful observer karliiina discovered it...

I'm not sure if it was an Osprey but he was flying with Teo. And Teo saw no need for danger.

Well, new females should not know about the events of the last few years.
And even couples like Marko and Miina, Teo and Vita knew about the danger and still never gave up their nests.

I never heard a Goshawk call here. I try to pay attention to that (of course my camera doesn't run 24/7). And during the mating season of the Goshawk in late winter, the stream is not online. It's no territory for a Goshawk pair I guess. We would hear more activity. They come here later with their juveniles...when they leave their own territory and train the juveniles to hunt.
I only heard buzzards. If we mean bigger birds.

So far there has been no stress or anxiety from Teo or the females.
I think these girls were passing through and let Teo take care of them. Moved on when they were stronger again.

18:56:10/11 Buzzard heard very close

19:01 Hearing Osprey a little upset

Then loud landing on the camera

19:02/03 There's the shouting Buzzard and at least one angry Osprey

Shrill calls....think two Osprey.

One on camera, one away.... the buzzard keeps calling.
hmm, what is that?
Those whistles...Osprey?

It was hectic now, I'm still very busy at home. Hope all calls are met.
It's just an excerpt....
(landing 19:01 (there is also a bird in the top right corner), calls 19:05/06)

19:16 Movement on the camera...quiet rustling.
19:17:40 again
'56 departure sounds

Too distinctive for our Osprey, too sonorous.
I've only ever experienced the Osprey sounding soft on camera here.

But the buzzard?

The Juvenile on August 5, 2021.

https://www.looduskalender.ee/forum/vie ... 07#p821807

Buzzards and ospreys don't actually do anything to each other.
Hormonal excitement?

It is of course possible to warn the buzzard of enemies such as Goshawk. They do it. But to me it sounded made for each other. Also that the buzzard came very close to Teos Nest.
Interesting, really.

It's a pity that a breeding is currently not in prospect. With buzzards (as well as red kites) as alert devices, the chances of being prepared for attackers would increase.

Unfortunately, the female did not stay.
Too bad.

Another female entered the nest today. Yellow ring on left leg, right metal.

08:48 Movement on camera and then....
A fish looks into the camera.
Definitely Teo's legs.
Image

The fish disappears upwards like a spider on a thread and the female jumps down into the nest.

08:58 Alarm call from a bird in the forest starts and gets louder. The female becomes more nervous, and Teo can also be heard briefly.

08:59 They both call and the bird in the forest doesn't let up.
Its calls are very piercing.
Does anyone have the knowledge which bird it is? Sounds almost like the thrush family? :help:

09:04 Teo comes into the nest with the fish.
The female remains calm, unimpressed (?).

In the middle of the approach both fall out of the nest.

They continue flying as a pair while another large bird approaches from the left.

09:09 The female is back, Teo is still in the air.
The female watches him from the nest.

Here comes the fish - with Teo.
And this time the female is not hesitant. She approaches Teo very temperamentally and takes the fish away from him.

Teo behaves like a gentleman, is submissive, not pushy.
Image

He climbs into the nest pit (better - slips) and gets a scolding.
The female pecks at him.
