Suggest names for osprets UM, UN and UP

Post by Bea »

°°°°

Hello everybody :hi:

Now our three osprets have got rings ---> UM, UN and UP --- and we are going to find names for them.
All three have the same first letter on their ring (U) and so we want to find names with their different second letters on the ring - M, N and P
UM is supposed to be a male,
UN and UP to be females.

So please suggest an Estonian male name starting with M for UM

Here you can find Estonian male names, as a little help:
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category ... iven_names

And please suggest Estonian female names, starting with N and P, for UN and UP

Here you can find Estonian female names, as a little help:
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category ... iven_names

Our Estonian members will surely know more about the names! Your suggestions are welcome and I hope for your help.

Please note that this is not yet the final vote for names. We will start a poll when we found a nice selection of names for the osprets.

Here is another link from Hellem (and aita, thanks to both), where you can check an Estonian (?) name
https://www.stat.ee/public/apps/nimed/
When a name is not used in Estonia or less than 5 people have this name, it won´t be displayed.

Let´s go! :shake:

People with this name do not live in Estonia or have less than 5 people, so statistics about this name can not be displayed.

Mart = means "the fighter"

i remove: Niina = means "the pure"
this is not available anymore, an ospret 2015 has got this name already. Thanks, asteria.

Paikea =
comes from the mythology of the Maori, the canu driver which was brought ashore on the back of a humpback whale, as his canoe sank.
In the great movie Whale Rider the young girl, who became the head of the tribe, was named Paikea.

:puzzled: So, if a name has been given to a bird before (even years ago or another species like a GSE) it can never be used again?
Is this the rule or just to prevent confusion?

Only so many names and the ringcodes are still unique..

I agree, Kitarr. There aren’t that many names to choose from. I, personally, love the name, Piret. Many people have fond memories of the, Piret, from 2013. I don’t see a problem with naming new Osprey chicks in honor of the ones that we knew.
But, I will honor any naming rules.

I suggest the names - Piia, Piret, Peep. Yes, Peep, is a male name, but it’s so nice.
Nele or Ursula
Male - Urmo ?
