WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 23rd

Good Morning!

07:45 A quiet morning; only a barking dog?

07:50 Small pieces of blue sky are visible above the trunk. Day is already longer?

good morning!

7:30:00 pünktlich the camera woke up.

8:04:27 a pygmy owl called.
8:09:55 again.
8:11:45 again very far.
8:14:00 a few calls more?

it's getting light... the sky is not fully covered by clouds.

i had another look at yesterday's morning videos. the top end of the stick was bobbling behind the minute digits for most of the morning. at 11:44 the top raised above the time stamp and became more visible. -it funny that the stick can stay there so constantly in such delicate balance, stable and yet not stable.

9:10 the sunrise. - this is as close to the winter solstice as we could get with this weather.
Image

10 min later the Sun was visible in the sky map. it had risen high enough. the morning "star" Venus was also in the sky but invisible a) behind the clouds, b) too high in the sky for our camera, and (or) c) because it was too light. 8-)
Image

in the camera view the Sun was apparently lower than 10 min earlier. a fish eye lens trick. :D

15:35 the pointer stick slipped out of sight again from the front left edge.

17:28:35 the camera went to sleep.
i wasn't watching all the time but i heard most of the day and most of the day i didn't hear anything special. i heard nuthatches and black woodpeckers at times (but i didn't write down when), and i think i heard some swans' voices as well.

good morning! Image
Abigyl, not actually hands-on working on the new season, but i have been thinking about it. brain work. :whistling:

8:28 a pygmy owl called rather near. about half a minute later calls from far(?) and then calls near!

8:29 again and again, calls and whistles. i think two pygmy owls were talking to each other.
8:30 - 8:31 more calls. also a blackbird woke up to call.
8:37:05 more whistles.
8:41:20 again calls, not near.
8:43:40 again a call. the weather looks rather ok. it's cloudy but the clouds aren't very thick. one can see some structure in the clouds. there's no wind.

9:26 jays quarrelled nearby.
9:33 a buzzard called, probably a real because the voice "seemed" to come from the sky from different places. there were also some voices of crows. they were probably keeping the buzzard's company. Image

10:12 ravens called in the forest for some time now. they have not been near.
10:21:40 a raven (probably) flew by from right to left.

i realized that our pointer stick has gone again. Image
it happened during a gust of wind yesterday afternoon.

11:33 a magpie was talking somewhere.
11:36 more.
11:42:05 ravens and crows called, not near.
11:48 - 11:51 a jay meowed nearby. then a cock crowed at the farm. then more 'normal' jay voices and a magpie's voice.

it's raining hard something which is partly visible. either big drops of water or big rags of sleet.

good morning and Merry Christmas! Image

7:59:15 a pygmy owl called nearby and loud.
8:06:40 again far.
8:09:25 again far.
8:11 some whistling voices from far.
8:12:30 the pygmy owl, still far.
8:16:50 a blackbird and then the pygmy owl, a little closer this time.
the sky is becoming golden above the forest line although the Sun is still more than 6 degrees below the horizon. the sunrise will be at 9:09 today.
8:22:35 a blackbird called. then a crow very far.

10:29:05 calls like eagle's calls but not quite. there was something strange about the voice. :puzzled:
maybe it was an eagle who was not adult yet? or someone imitating an eagle, someone much better than jays? a black woodpecker with a less common voice? :help:

Sonchik wrote: December 25th, 2020, 8:36 pm At 10:02-10:03, there was the same voice?
thank you Sonchik!
10:02 a nutcracker called (and a crow cawed very far) a few times rather near.
10:02:50 and 10:03:07 there was another voice which to me sounded different than the call above. it was a more familiar voice but i can't figure out who it was. a tit or a nuthatch? :puzzled:
