Sea kales on pebble bank
Sea kale is a halophyte, growing on pebble shores, less often on sandy beaches, on the Estonian western and north-western coasts. The large and thick lower leaves are much fleshier and with a different shape from the upper leaves. The whole plant is covered with a bluish-grey waxy film.
The flower stems are angular and impressive, the inflorescences of white flowers smell quite strongly and produce abundant nectar. Insects have something to feast on.
