The international birdwatching event “Birdwatch” takes place this weekend. More details can be read on the Estonian Ornithological Society’s website. I had a look around in the Tartu area. I didn’t see anyone particularly exciting but collected quite many species – 89. The most interesting finds were some late leavers: among the swallows at the pond in Tartu’s Supilinn was a house martin (Delichon urbicum) and at the sandpit at Aardla polder a wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe). For both species it is the latest known observation in Tartumaa. All observations today can be seen in the e-Biodiversity database.
