Bullfinch, male
More of them have come here from the north and north-east. In winter they will not go much further than Latvia.
A bullfinch group eating sunflower seeds on the white snow carpet is a pretty sight. The male has cheeks, chest and chin in postcard red; females are modestly pinkish brown, all have grey patterned back feathers. The crown of adult birds is black, wings are black with a broad white band and the rump area is white.
Young birds can be recognized from the fact that their crown is not black.
