The north-easterly wind is bringing the shore ice out to sea. Our grey seals know how to enjoy this – sailing downwind on the ice floes.
There is one degree of frost and a water temperature near zero in Vilsandi. The denser the snowfall, the more the surface water temperature drops. A heavy snowfall often also covers our solar panels that can become covered with ice glaze due to the proximity to open water. It takes some days again then until the sun manages to melt the crust and the panels can feed the power sources.
