Rough-legged hawk.
26. november
Today we had a rather rare winter guest –a rough-legged hawk.
The rough-legged hawk is also called winter hawk. It nests in the Polar areas and so is used to fighting with ravens. On arrival the bird’s characteristic pale wing undersides and black wing shoulders can be seen, as well as the feet, feathered down to the toes. The winter population may be about a hundred individuals, usually keeping near the coast
Very easy to mistake for common buzzard.
