Characteristic color for malebird is a red splotch on his occiput. Both male and female bird have black pate and backplumage, white spots on shoulders, red undertail feathers, quite colorful getup in wintry nature. In the forest they eat conifer seeds and we know the expression - woodpeckers smithy. It's not a rare visitor at birdhouses or on a fattyball.
Wintry numbers can amount to 300 000 birds. It goes well for great spotted woodpecker, their numbers are growing.
